Also we have yet to see the sponsored V-Gifts from Pepsi Max. Was it called off?

I don't think so, I think I have seen code for it recently but...
As someone said to me, Sponsored Virtual Gifts are a much bigger issue seeing as you can't control who is allowed to give you a gift and which gift they are allowed to give you. Paid users could then have Pepsi ads - sorry, sponsored gifts - on their profile pages.

I know this has been addressed before, but if I were to receive a Pepsi gift during this time from someone and i did not want it, could I delete it as soon as I have gotten it? Besides the sponsored gift being what it was, what if the message from the person was insulting? I assume one could delete it as soon as they saw it?

I think the v-gifts are cute like e-cards. And I do send V-gifts to friends. I am not sure what I think about the sponsored V-gifts until I see them I guess.

I am assuming that once a user get one, we can keep it forever on our gift page? some people love their gift page, it is like a brag page to them. Dothe V-gift will

Also: if sponsored content is different from advertising, why the frell does a sponsored LJ style contain an URL leading to 6A's Adbureau?!

http://sixapart.adbureau.net/adclick/CID= (followed by a string of numbers)

Adbureau! Adclick! It says ad right there!

(reposted because of typos)

Because LJ's logic and yours are two different things. You're trying to be honest. Thanks for noticing that. I've added it to the post.

I don't agree that sponsored styles or mood themes are ads. They're selectable from the layout edit section for plus/free users, and you can see the layouts/mood themes of plus/free users, so I don't see why Paid users shouldn't see them if they're layouts. It's not like they're ads that break layouts.

Actually, everybody can use them (Paid and Permanent users too). Paid and Perm users do see other users' layouts - thank God! - but don't see the ads that are in Plus layouts. Some Plus layouts look perfectly fine with ads in them so this has nothing to do with whether ads break them or not.
Personally, I think that something with the Pepsi logo, the name Pepsi and the links to 6A's ad server advertise the brand Pepsi. You're free to think otherwise but I would like to know what your reasoning is.

Well yes. That's not quite what I meant. I meant to say, they're just a layout like all the others are. They aren't advertising in the sense that ads are--I mean, if I wanted to, I could make a custom layout advertising something too, and use it. They're sponsored because a corporation decided to pay Livejournal money to include their custom-made layout in the selections of layouts other users can use. It's like people making their own layouts with LOTR pictures or HP pictures or whatever it is they want to use. And including links and all that. It's all part of the layout.

So it links back. Pepsi can do that. The point is that it's a layout, not advertising. Sponsored, yes, and therefore it's got images and links that go back to the sponsor. But I used the Havanaias layout before I went Paid. I liked the layout. It was prettier than the other Basic layouts. I didn't care that the Havanaias logo linked back. I figure, they want to pay to allow a free user like me some eye candy? Sure.

Fair enough but, to me, there's a difference between a fan making a layout with stuff they like and a company giving money to another company to create stuff with their name on it and a way to know how many people clicked on it, where they came from and other type of information advertisers collect. Why? Because the purpose is not the same. My mood theme is made of HP characters. By using it, I advertise HP in a way. I know that. Is this why it was made? No. It was made by someone who liked the characters and the story and felt like drawing them using their own style and telling their own version of the story. In the case of sponsored content, the only reason why it was made *is* advertising. Pepsi is not giving layouts for free because they want people to have nice layouts. They're giving layouts for free because it is a very clever way of advertising their products. Yes, they paid people to make them but they do not have to pay people to use them: users themselves are advertising their brand for free. So, no, to me it's not just a ( ... )
