I imagine that the idea behind pushing Vox as having more privacy options stems from all the LiveJournal users who barely understand friends-only posts, much less friends groups, and end up making public posts about very private matters. It isn't business-savvy to describe Vox just as having privacy controls in really obvious places with "everyone in the world can read this" warnings for public settings, though, which means they need to pretend that Vox offers something new in that area.
but people who may have aged out of MySpace or LiveJournal's target audience and don't wants blogs to include random comments from teenagers.
That's already what LJ is. Despite the huge number of teenagers on LJ, there's also a whole lot of older users, and I find it frustrating that it's being implied that vox is more "mature" than LJ. Even though I don't use Vox, it seems like it might be more popular with younger folks than LJ is.
I also agree with the above post - some people do seem to jump on the boat of saying LJ doesn't have good privacy, when in fact it has some of the best privacy available, it's just not advertised in flashing red text or anything.
Personally I like it that LJ is interested in protecting your work, even derivative works such as icons and fanfic, more than protecting you from strange things people write and believe. I was capable of looking at pro-ana material when I was 16 and recognising it for the bullshit it is.
That's weird, because a while back I reported that someone... well, copied my LJ entries (as well as pretty much my entire life, creepy) and her account was suspended. Then later, she got un-suspended because she said I was copying her and had deleted all the copy-entries. They said they couldn't do anything without a court decision blah blah, but I wasn't asked to delete anything. That seems to go against the LJ Abuse status quo?
But I like to think it's because they knew her accusation was a pile of horseshit. :D
