Is LiveJournal still using flash ads? Did anyone see a conversation since the last pop-up incident about changing their ad policies?

I just realized I hadn't seen anything new on ads since that last incident as I read this blog today ( Read more... )

but i recently had to ditch my old machine because it caught a .WMF that wanted to download an EXPLOIT.WMF file from the internet which it was apparently susceptible to because i was also running off of windows 98, which is no longer supported by micro$oft. now i'm using XP and haven't had any issue as of now.

That happened recently on MySpace. As one of the commenters pointed out in the comments after the article, when a company outsources its ads, all it takes is one ad supplier to slip up an let one of these through.

*sigh*

1. I'm not sure if LJ's still using Flash ads. I just did a quick check and didn't see any for about thirty or so page loads.

2. No, there has been no public update on changes to ad policies or security since the pop up incident; in fact, there have been no ad updates period on lj_ads, despite the fact that communities are now capable of going Plus (which is now also the DEFAULT for new communities, as I think we've noted in a post before). You'd think that "positive" event would at least merit a mention, even if the negatives like talking about ad insecurities wouldn't.

3. There is no way of telling whether or not insecurities will continue to happen with the ads on LJ until there's some kind of a security update.

Oh yeah--supposedly an upgrade to Flash v9.0 prevents that one worm?
