Taking cookies out of the jar

Jun 25, 2006 12:04

adserver.livejournal.com sets a cookie that looks like this:

Name: flashInstalled
Content: 8.0 r27

A cookie I had set today has the expiration date of: Sun, Jul 9, 2006 11:57:30 AM

I'm wondering if it might be possible to avoid being served Flash ads if this cookie was blocked from being set, but I'm not quite sure yet.

Or, perhaps, if you changed its value to reflect "not installed"?

In my case, since I don't have Flash installed on this computer, this cookie gets set to 0 for me. Unfortunately, Firefox doesn't seem to offer a UI to change the value of this cookie.

Oooh, nice! That's good to know!

I did install a plugin to edit for play, but I didn't know what value I ought to put there. But I'm with you--FireFix oughter add that in! And editing of style sheets in browser. I mean, come on, FX. Don't give me that "find your randomly generated profile folder" to do something that even IE does more easily!

Stylesheets are already editable in Firefox if you know where to look. It's only temporary, but the DOM Inspector lets you do this and more. It's an awesome tool.

Oh, yes, the instructions are there for all the guides I've been writing. It's just that I don't think it should be that difficult for an end user to edit their user stylesheet, because FX is the most difficult mainstream browser for that I've run into. Which, as a user-experience focused browser, it shouldn't be. But the Stylish extension rocks my socks.

I now have "Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?" stuck in my head, and you're to blame. *shakes fist* :P

The more and more I think about it, the more I realize that it is impossible for me to get the aforementioned song stuck in my head.

This is actually a strange occurrence for me, because I'll go around humming the same song for weeks and listen to the same song on repeat for hours or sometimes days.

Okay now I know I'm not completely crazy (I do that as well).
