Coughing through the snow...

WELL. Spent the past week sick as a dog, getting a cold (with fever), sinus infection, and finally an ear infection one after the other over the course of five days, and feeling progressively worse until antibiotics happened - which, btw, is the opposite of how a regular winter cold should go. Everybody knows the first few days should be the worst ( Read more... )

jupiter ascending looked batshit from the previews, so i am completely unsurprised the whole thing is even more ridiculous. if i lived near you i would totally go see it with you, because it looks like the kind of batshit that has to be seen with company.

that ballet performace is A. MAZ. ING. the hot tattooed dancer doesn't hurt. :D except now i'm going to have the song stuck in my head.

The most important thing I heard about Jupiter Ascending is that it doesn't take itself too seriously, which gives me much hope that it will be super enjoyable. Making plans to see it this weekend - wish I could see it with you, but I'll certainly let you know how it goes!

It's a very sticky song, isn't it? But yes, his body is INSANE.

Wonderful dancer! Though I agree with some of the commenters, the song is not one I feel merited his efforts, he got the most out of it! The Holmes one is touching, too.

Yeah, I think what really struck me about it is how... fannish it felt to me? Like, this ballet dancer loves this popular song, so he decides to make some non-commercial art/interpretive dance for it. It was kinda touching in that sense. :)

Glad you liked the videos!

On another topic, omg, I am loving Grantchester so much. Thanks for writing about it, as I might easily have let it slip by.

I've decided that British 40s/50s -- I guess we could call it UK Postwar -- should be a fandom in and of itself, because recently what's been speaking to me is Grantchester, Call the Midwife, the sadly-too-soon-cancelled The Hour & The Bletchley Circle. Hmm, if we give Agent Carter a guest pass for being a British character in an American production set during the time period, that's nearly everything I'm loving lately.

Ahhh - I know you mentioned this already to me, and I had every intention to reply but then I got buried under work and then got sick; sorry! I am SO GLAD you're loving Grantchester!

And yes, there should definitely be a fandom for UK post-WWII narratives. There is something deeply compelling about stories in which heroes face a more complicated world, and try to navigate it the best they can because life around them needs rebuilding. The undercurrent of hope, its necessity even, really appeals to me. Plus there's the aesthetic. :)

I worked through some more of my ideas in a post in my own LJ; I think I might make a Tumblr for this. (I still think that is a seriously inferior platform for discussion; however . . . ) I just need a better name. ;-)

Hope you feel better soon.
