All of what you said! THIS SHOW IS GREAT. While I'd recognised the fridging of Steve in advance, I was pleasantly surprised by just how much the show leaned into the tropiest parts of that trope: Peggy being forced by circumstances to go into his file, whereupon she falls into a sad flashback when faced with his picture; Jarvis ~giving her strength~ by reminding her of how much Steve relied on her before he died. GREATNESS. :D

I keep debating whether Sousa or Angie is the Sekrit Bad Guy. On the one hand, if Angie's exactly what she appears to be, I foresee Peggy bringing her into the SSR/SHIELD because Bitches Get Shit Done. On the other hand, if Sousa's exactly what he appears to be, I foresee it coming to light that Steve saved his life at some point during the war, thereby making him Peggy's future husband. All I know is, one or the other of them is evil, and the show's doing well thus far in not tipping their hand.

Oooooh, good thinking. On the one hand, I'd hate for Angie to turn out to be the baddie because I like their dynamic SO VERY MUCH; on the other hand, she's the more likely candidate, I think, than the nice veteran who does the most brainy detective work in that office. I suspect he'll become both a friend and a threat as he comes closer to figuring out Peggy's role in the plot to exculpate Stark, but... who knows. The show might surprise me. (I hope it will!)

Another thing I really like is that, while we know Peggy will live to a ripe old age and have a rather phenomenally successful life, the show is very good at building suspense - not of the "will she make it?" variety but of the "HOW will she make it?" and that's a pretty great thing. YAY NEW TEEVEE LOVE ♥

The Peggy/Angie dynamic is WONDERFUL. And I too hope Angie's not evil, because she *is* the more likely candidate, and subverting that would not only be a really good story choice, it could also mean we'd get a show that ends with two dames standing victorious atop a pile of man-rubble. :D

Buuuuut I do think you're right re: Sousa inevitably figuring out what Peggy's hiding (ahead of the rest of the SSR, most likely) and becoming another antagonist for her in that respect, more than as a Sekrit Bad Guy. I GUESS WE'LL SEE HOW THINGS SHAKE OUT.

Okay, see, now I need this to happen. It would be SO GREAT. And spectacularly beautiful. :)

Btw, I kept waiting for the red paint of the cow logo to dissolve into the Hydra symbol, but thank heavens that didn't happen. I'm a bit Hydra'd out. Also, fond and protective of dairy.

It's definitely different (and far more stylized) than what I usually watch, but very charming nonetheless. Hooray for enjoyable television! :D

pretty much this, yes. i really love the sharp commentary on postwar sexism and how the ptb make it fit with all the comic book adventure and gadgets and humor and fun stuff. and even tho peggy is essentially the hero of a superhero story, she's a real person with the occasional weakness that implies. the show really does have an amazing balance of fun and serious and silly and sincere and historically accurate and complete fantasy.

She is SO WONDERFULLY REAL. ♥_♥ I was just talking to alethialia about the weirdness of this show coming across as more real and relatable in all its post-WWII pulpy glory, than SHIELD with its contemporary time frame and Coulson's "everyman" quality. As she pointed out, SHIELD is pretty isolated in the high-tech microcosm of aliens and freaky stuff, whereas Peggy very much lives in the world & society, and deals with everyday life alongside all her evil-battling action. Well done, writers. :D
