I love your thoughts about THAT SCENE in Skyfall!

I think it's partially...vanity? from Silva that is why he won't go the seduction route--he knows it would be Bond playing along, and he's to vain about his smarts to make it seem as though he doesn't know that. I think that tallies what you were saying about ethics, and even respect--he really does approach Bond as an equal and wants to show that he's an equal to Bond, so he can't play dumb or make Bond play dumb. They are the last two rats, M's two favorites--for Silva's self-conception, they pretty much have to be equals.

Thank you! I agree, it is a matter of vanity/pride, and also Silva's resolve to maintain the sense of equality & honesty between them. But I'm still craving fic which would subvert the "seduction of the enemy" trope from the franchise and use it as a... negotiation, shall we say, between these two in which neither of them plays dumb. And not just because I think it would be hot (although - yes!), but because sex as a tool in espionage is pretty controversial for both of them. Bond didn't always draw a clear line between sex and intimacy/trust, and Silva basically owns and terrorizes a woman, plus has all sorts of screwed up feelings for M (would he wonder if Bond ever slept with her? oh em gee), and that could make for a pretty crazy mix.

Actually, now that I think about it, that story might be too dark for me to enjoy. Heh.

I continue to enjoy Person of Interest! A lot. Also, I'm incredibly amused everytime there's a LOST reunion on my screen: first there was Leon from a few episodes (played Miles on LOST) and then the husband from this week (played the mysterious Jacob who in LOST got stabbed by Ben aka Michael Emerson).

I never watched Lost but I know the cast was pretty stellar (not to mention huge). And thanks for the stabbing clip - er, that was intense and kind of awful, but what a talented bunch in front of the cameras! Glad they had some lighter fare in that ep of POI, a.k.a. Valentine's Day in November. :)

Oh man if you ever have a week to spare, I so recommend mainlining LOST. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be constantly confused. :D
