Two things that made today's Doctor Who episode an instant fave:

Behind the cut there be spoilers... )

Everything you said, YES OMG ♥

(ALSO SPEAKING OF WIFE, HAI!)

As much as I adore the companions, each in their own way, in my heart of hearts I believe in Doctor/TARDIS. I also adore it when writers give ~voices to things or entities that otherwise wouldn't have voices (this has been on my mind since I recently saw a version of 'Frankenstein' that focuses on the Creature).

LMAO THAT SNEAKY DOCTOR-STEALING TARDIS I LOVE HER. IA about that making them partners. Also, in a way I feel like it's a kind of resolution - Amy had a brilliant line about the Doctor needing forgiveness. I feel like a part of him has always felt iffy about having stolen the TARDIS, like he has less right to it (than someone who hadn't stolen it, I guess), but now he knows that she went with him, that she stole him too; she's like one of his Companions who chose to go with him, except better because she's also the one who takes him places.

SO MANY THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS *hands*

LOL YES HELLO WIFE ♥

That part about giving voices to entities and shifting perspective - I've been fascinated by it since I was a kid. I think the first such story I ever read was "The House of Asterion" by Borges... hang on... here is the very short story if you want to check it out. Ha - I even had the last line written on the wall of my room! It basically blew my mind at a very young age, so it's no wonder I have such a soft spot for that kind of narrative: Wide Sargasso Sea, Grendel... (I saw this production of Frankenstein too and, while I found many issues with it, the fact that it's a story told from the Creature's POV is wonderful in itself!) And to get this story from Gaiman, and in the Doctor Who canon, and about TARDIS... it's amazing on too many levels. *flail ( ... )

When I heard the title of the episode was 'The Doctor's Wife', I tried to figure out who the wife might be. I knew River wasn't in the episode and I couldn't imagine Neil writing some wacky episode where the Doctor gets married and divorced in 44 minutes. As soon as the bickering started it clicked - the TARDIS is his wife ( ... )

They were sort of perfectly coded as a married couple; it was lovely to watch, because in a way they functioned just as well (imperfectly/beautifully) together as they always do when one of them is a big blue box. :D

What fascinates me about River is that her storyline brings this amazing sense of limits - in space and time, which are otherwise the Doctor's nearly limitless playing field - determined not by unchangeable events but by the flow of the Doctor's very own timeline. He is practically immortal and capable of moving through the universe and history as he chooses, and yet... there is this relationship that must take place sort of backwards, there mustn't be any spoilers, and the gorgeous tragedy of it is that they are star-crossed despite all relevant dimensions and there is nothing they can do about it, but learn to love around these circumstances. And alongside love, I think the show has come a long way in teaching the Doctor about humility - not an easy thing to do with such a powerful character, whose romances tend to be ( ... )

I love that the TARDIS stole him. ♥

does anybody else hear the words "forest" and "river" in the same sentence and immediately think about "Forest of the Dead"?

It was such a perfect episode! I mean, there are ways to screw up the story of a ship coming to life as a beautiful woman - but of course they made it BRILLIANT and lovely and powerful and deep! So much love. ♥

They are the OTPiest of the OTPs everrrrrrr. ♥ ^ INFINITY

Also, there's no way that forest and river isn't going there. Or, well, ok, this show constantly surprises me, so it could be going anywhere, but that is definitely what I immediately jumped to as well. You can't throw around the word "River" in this season and have it not be the first association.

SHOW!

THE MOST EXCELLENT SENTIENT SPACESHIP OTP EVER!!!!!! ♥

I am sort of terrified of the inevitable heartbreak that is Doctor/River, but they are so amazing together that I just can't help myself. OH SHOW.

Yeah, I think I'll take whatever disastrous end to this story Moffat has planned in exchange for everything that happens in the meantime. Of course, since he already showed up her end, I'm worried how much worse he could make it...
