Allow me to present your Summer 2009 Blockbuster Mashup

Because Star Trek and Half-Blood Prince are going to mark this summer at the box office, this makes perfect sense*:

Star Trek characters at Hogwarts.Except they wouldn't just play in the HP 'verse. This is Star motherfucking Trek, people. They'd probably do something so far beyond the vision of the books, they'd subvert that canon for good. ( Read more... )

I'm hoping this post inspires a fic writer. Or five. *fingers crossed*

Spock is ace at Occlumency, and Kirk isn't sure he likes that.

Or, Kirk et al learn to do the Animagus transformation! (Because they could be Marauders instead of Harry et al, too.)

1. YES. Oh, the potential.

2. I sense many, many comic possibilities here.

Especially when Kirk finds out that his animagus form is, like, a gerbil or something.

(What happens if you're some kind of aquatic creature? Wouldn't that be really inconvenient?)

OR A TRIBBLE. (I am a terrible person.)

Perhaps the animagi can only be in a certain relevant (and not too removed) taxonomic rank? Although everybody knows that John and Rodney are dolphins. Hmm, it's a mystery.

I really don't know how I feel about Star Trek without the Enterprise. She's one of my favourite characters!

Though Spock is probably Head Boy.

Although now I'm wondering what Hogwarts is like in the 23rd century. How can you tell the magic flying motorcycles from the hoverbikes? How does magic improve on hoverbikes? Do some people just not bother with magic now that there are hoverbikes?

Maybe the Enterprise is the graduation gift. Or something.

Ahahaha, Head Boy! (I am twelve forever.)

I actually imagined this as an AU where the ST characters are Hogwarts students in contemporary times, not the 23rd century. (And they shouldn't be complete parallels to the HP characters, because that wouldn't really do them justice.) However, I do like the idea that magic and technology develop in such similar ways that they completely blur the line between magical and non-magical worlds. Because that would be kind of awesome.

The dirty part of my brain thinks Bones should be a teacher. Or, well, older in any case.

Also: YES.

And I don't know how I read cake decorators as cake vibrators but then I didn't care as I died laughing at cake vibrators.

I could see Bones as the doctor/healer, actually. (There's a medical office at Hogwarts, right?)

AHAHAHAHA OMG CAKE VIBRATORS. I don't even know what that could BE, but it's hilarious!

Here, have a somewhat relevant vid. (Don't worry, it's work-safe.)
