Haven't watched the SGA MOrtal Coil yet, but the spoilers from the flist got me intrigued.
When I read that you had troubles with the neighbours I thought - O.o someone was singing karaoke in front of your door. Heh. But this sounds dangerous, especially the just arguing part. I hope you get better nights over the weekend. (Wisconsin? Isn't that like riilly cold?)
Oh, there is a LOT to enjoy in this ep! I just couldn't help noticing the crappy stuff as well. ;)
LOL - I wish it was just singing in the street! But the stupid loud neighbors actually moved out yesterday, which is AWESOME. I am already feeling more like myself and less prone to thinking about Wisconsin... which IS pretty damn cold, honey.
I felt like it was a cop-out that they created this whole duplicate team and a new Elizabeth, with all the possible dramatic implications therein, and then got rid of them so quickly and easily in just a minute in the same episode. So while I loved all the character stuff that happened before (like the Johns commiserating over the Rodneys going on and on), the episode ended on a distinctly underwhelming note for me. Given that it's supposedly a cliff-hanger, I really wish they could have kept the duplicates around until the conclusion.
OMG, "My McKay" - I think I could watch that over and over and OVER again. *sigh*
Yeah, I didn't expect them to wrap it that way either. Whoever was saying on Sunday that they should have made two eps out of that plot line? Totally right.
Hee! That was me. I am right! Meanwhile, though, liviapenn's post on the episode made me feel a bit better, because she has a good argument that they still aren't actually dead. The short version is that the gun the replicator shot clone!John with was a replicator gun, so it shouldn't work on a human anyway. Even if it kills the replicators in John's body, everyone else should still be able to heal from the crash and John would just lose his healing ability.
I enjoyed the episode as a fan, because I knew there would be nice fanfic poping up, but the ending? Not so much. I was disappointed that this team wasn't allowed to survive, even if away from Atlantis. Maybe they did? Maybe I'll get to read the fic and there will be much Blade Runner wonderfulness??
BTW, Sci-Fi's promos gave away the whole plot. I was not pleased, after staying relatively spoiler free :/
The neighbors actually moved out! Yay, peace and quiet!
That ending did piss me off as well. And you're so right, the promo gave away EVERYTHING! No wonder there was zero suspense; we all knew what was coming.
If you smelled the pot, I'm sure the cops did too. They probably held them overnight.
The concept of Replicator-made humans was awesome, and so were all the fantastic parallels and conflicts between "copies" and doppelgangers and foils... but the execution was AWFUL.
Of course, the really big problem with this storyline is that it was done on SG1 and done much better.
But perhaps the thing that bothered me most was that they killed Elizabeth off-screen. Sure, Fake!Keller could have been lying, but what don't know that right now. And to bring Torri back to play an Elizabeth copy I thought was a slap in the face to her and the fans.
Yep, looks like they were booked. And they've moved away this weekend, so hooray!
The basics of that storyline were done many, many times before the Stargate shows, which is why it's practically inexcusable to mess up this much. Seriously. As for Elizabeth getting killed off-screen, on the one hand I did appreciate that the nanite!Elizabeth was clearly remarkably like the real one - but on the other hand, we just got to see her get all self-sacrificing AGAIN, and I didn't see much point in that. Blah blah, bring on the Borg queen.
