[OOC: In order to relieve Ki's inbox. Shikamaru and Tayuya leave the party at number nine, heading for the roof.]Anko's smile was perhaps the freakiest thing Tayuya had ever seen and was met with a glower on the redhead's part. This whole incident was strongly reaffirming just why she normally avoided gatherings such as this - associating with a ( Read more... )

Shikamaru didn't miss a beat, continuing in his felinelike prowl up the tiresome flights. Hands tucked in his front pockets as always, he fingered idly at a hole in the denim as he put off the inevitable tonguelashing.

"I didn't rescue you, I just didn't feel like sticking around for a catfight. They're troublesome." Well, so long as they were being untruthful.

He continued in his fluid stride, skipping a step every other acsension.

"I didn't need rescuing, either." He pointed this out in afterthought, of Tayuya's having stalked Anko down as she was trying to either sell something to him, fuck with him or hook him up with Ichigo. He'd rather not debate which was true.

Tayuya's look was withering. "That wasn't a catfight. That was just my roommate being a bitch." A pause. "And I wasn't fucking trying to rescue you - that was me being bored and wanting to piss Anko off."

She wasn't so good at this coverup thing...not at all, but she made up for it with her scowl.

Anyway. Catching up with him fully, she took the oppertunity to punch his arm - lightly, but with enough force to convey her irritation. "What the fuck were you saying back there? Y'know Anko's gonna go around telling everyone shit." Her blood chilled at the thought of what Anko could do with the information she'd gained, however credible.

Shikamaru tensed and fisted his punched arm in his pocket, but aside from that didn't convey any reaction to it. With his other shoulder, having reached the final platform, he leaned into the push-bar door and was submerged in the cold night air. He didn't have his jacket, just a knight black turtleneck--but he was rather used to ignoring his chill when he didn't feel like leaving the grass after dayfall back home.

Opting for crossing to the precipice rather than turning to face her, he only spoke once his folded arms were on the protective rail. "Aa, just like you weren't tuning me out after having made eye contact with me." A statement, not a question. He was merely overturning her brash pieces rather than picking a fight.

The latter he more or less ignored, looking over the sea of lights he had been told about and noting how they did indeed weave their own constellations.

Once again, Tayuya silently fumed over the the sheer amount of 'laid back' the guy could exclude as she crossed to stand next to him, choosing to be (minutely) contrary and lean against the rail the opposite way, the small of her back uncomfortable against it, but uncaring of the discomfort.

He was right, of course, which was probably a major factor behind her irritation...that and the fact she wasn't used to having someone who was basically a stranger look out for her. It threw her off balance, left her without a leg to stand on.

"...Thanks," she muttered finally, the word slipping out grudgingly as she watched him out of the corner of her eye. What was so interesting about the city lights, anyway?
