I’ve been no-poo for 7 months. My biggest problems are a total lack of consistent results and increasingly severe dandruff ( Read more... )

Thanks for the suggestions! I haven't tried that yet. So use the white vinegar mix and forgo the BS altogether? Should I use organic WV or will any old WV do? And would I still be using the WV with a spray bottle?

My plan of action is to try every suggestion I receive here before giving up haha. I did search through the tags and found all the info overwhelming, and way more problem posts than solution posts which made finding a "what works story" pretty difficult. I figured I'd ask for some specific advice and then supplement that with the info in the tags. Hopefully I can make something work, I really don't want to go back to poo.

Someone had told me organic ACV was a good choice and since it cost about the same as regular ACV that's what I've been using, but I don't know if it really matters :P

Have you tried washing less often? Twice a week with baking soda proved to be way too much for my hair, or really for my scalp. I went to a mix of water only, water + ACV, and baking soda when I need it (and I just know when I need it, sometimes it's once a week, sometime every ten to twelve days, rarely more often than that). It stopped scalp flaking.

Also, I wash my hair most days with at least water since I am fairly physically active.

I haven't tried that since by day 3 or 4 my hair is filthy and my scalp itches/flakes like crazy, but maybe that's due to the baking soda? I didn't know some people used it less frequently or not at all. Is there a difference between white vinegar and ACV when it comes to ones hair? I've tried Googling but can't seem to find much beyond ACV being the more common choice.

Just wanted to say that it's different for everyone with the WV and ACV. My hair looks stringy with AVC and does better with WV. I'd also like to second that too much washing can make your scalp itchy when using baking soda. It can build up on your scalp and make the skin appear crusty.

When I've had dandruff problems, I wash with a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water, then follow my normal BS concoction and ACV concoction. Basically do the same as usual, just start with white vinegar and water first, scrubbing my scalp with it in there pretty well. Finger nails work great for this.

Hm, I might try your suggestion first since it incorporates my established routine :) What's the difference between ACV and white vinegar?

I have absolutely no idea, to be honest! I just know that it works and I have several gallons of it in my house because I used it for cleaning. lol
