Prologue.

Jude Law woke up, laying face down on the cold concrete of the prison yard. He was alone and freezing cold, his forehead and nose was oozing with sticky  red blood and the memory of being perpetually punched in the head by some of the other inmates.
Although, this was a rather unfortunate fate, Jude was thankful. From the moment he had set foot in prison he had been beat up on, raped, bullied, tossed around and abused like he was just a ragdoll. It had become the norm for Jude and he didn't bother fighting against it anymore because he had learnt that fighting only made it worse.
The Brit sat upright and wiped the blood from his upper lip before sighing and looking up at the giant clock on the wall of the prison. 12.30. Lunch. "Bollocks!" He grunted, shooting up from the ground and rushing inside.

Jude felt every pair of eyes fall on him when he went into the dining hall. His own eyes darted around the dining hall for somewhere to sit, preferably on his own.
"You're late, Law."
Jude looked at the guard beside him and nodded. "Sorry, officer."
"This is the third time this week, Law. If this is becoming a regular habit of yours the chief will be forced to take away your privilages to eat with the other inmates. You'll have to stay in your cell and eat alone."
Jude nodded and picked up a sandwich pack from the shelf, it was probably filled with something he didn't want or something he didn't like, but it was food and he wasn't one to complain. "Believe me, sir," he said; "I'd be more than happy to eat alone."

Once lunch was over, all the inmates were sent back to their cells. Jude went straight to the sink to wash his face with cold water. He watched as blood, dirt and grit from the ground ran down the plughole.
The bars beside him rattled loudly as metal hit metal. Jude jumped and turned his head.
"Sorry." the man apologised, poking his head out from behind the bunk he was shifting.
Jude didn't recognise his face so he deemed it safe to talk to him. "What are you doing?" he asked the man who was at least 5 years to his senior.
The man smiled at him. "Good God, you're English. That's cute."
Jude's cheeks flushed red and his eyes darted around, nervously.
"And you're shy," the man went on. "that's cuter. I'm moving my bunk. I can't sleep with my head under a window."
Jude nodded and turned away from him. "I have to stop talking to you." He said, climbing up onto his own bunk.

The man in the next cell watched the young blonde pull a battered book from under his pillow and watched his slender fingers find his bookmark and open on the right page. Curiously, he stepped out of his cell and went to the next. He didn't say anything, he just leant up against the bars and folded his arms across his chest.
Jude didn't look up at him, but he was very aware of his presence. Jude became scared, he wondered if somebody had already spoken to him, told him exactly what he was and if the new guy was there for a test-drive. "Please leave." Jude mumbled, moving his bright blue eyes away from the page to the man in the entrance of his cell, only now he had a better look at him.
He wasn't a particularly tall man, Jude put him no taller than 5'8", but he was built well enough, not a lot of muscle but enough to look strong. He had his orange jumpsuit sleeves tied around his middle and wore a dark grey vest and a charm necklace with three different coloured, flat circle stones on it. He wasn't bad to look at but he looked like he'd been in a few wars, his big brown eyes were full of angst and pain despite the crooked smile on his face.

"Why?" He asked. "Does my being here bother you?"
"Yes, as a matter of fact it does."
The older mans smile faded and he frowned a little, but he respected the young mans wishes and left, back into his own cell.  Jude closed his eyes, and wished he didn't find it so difficult to trust people because this guy seemed genuine enough. If he had been spoken to by one of the others, he wouldn't have left like that. "I'm sorry." Jude apologised, closing his book again and climbing down from his bunk. "Sorry." he repeated walking to the bars.
The older man smiled again and poked his hand through the bars. Jude stepped back but then realised he only wanted to shake his hand. "We don't have to be 'friends' or anything," the man said, as Jude shooks his hand slowly. "but for future reference, my name's Robert. Robert Downey Jr."
"Nice to meet you Robert, Robert Downey Jr. Jude Law."

Robert smiled  toothily and broke off the handshake. "The pleasure is mine."
