Video killed the radio star

Soon after the garklet was born, a little over three years ago, ias sent me out with a shopping list, as follows:
  • Lansinoh
  • Cotton wool

I decided to get these from the big John Lewis in town, on the ostensible grounds that it was marginally closer to the car park than Boots. This also meant that I could browse the AV department. One thing lead to another, and I ( Read more... )

I'll be very interested to hear how you guys get on, as this is what we're running as well, although with an EyeTV DTT rather than the Diversity (dunno if there's any difference there ( ... )

The difference seems to be that the DTT is single tuner, whereas the Diversity has two tuners. The tuners can be used independently (so that you can record from two multiplexes at the same time) or together (to improve the quality of the signal).

Thanks for the pointer to the Rowmote app - I'll give it a go.

Ah yes, I see now.

We went for the DTT as it was the cheap "proof of concept" option. I suspect once we have enough confidence in the setup we'll look into either the diversity or the FreeSat adapter, as there are times when the dual channel functionality would be useful.

It's worth paying for the "Pro" version of the Rowmote app, which gives you a little keyboard and mouse that you can switch to in addition to the control buttons.

I rather liked the Tivo I used to have. Having it built into the current cable box is very nice. Means I need a second box to play downloads though.

Hanging on to the old TV set won't provide any opportunity to teach because it will simply stop working in a couple of years, of course you can hook it up to a modulator, but at that point it works like a really crappy tuner-less display, which also does not teach the lesson ( ... )

I was being flippant about the portable; while it has some sentimental value to me, it's been some time since it was last turned on (it's been in the loft for at least three years) and we'll probably dispose of it as WEEE well before analogue switchoff.

Still, it was useful when I was trying to align our new aerial a couple of years ago.

As for your solution, an estimate of "not even 1%" is probably out by between four and five orders of magnitude.

Alex has a setup involving a Mac Mini and Eye TV. You'd need to talk to him if you wanted to check if he's solved any of the problems you have had, but it's worked pretty well for us, once I got the hang of it. also, it lives in a cupboard with a Wii remote bluetooth remote, which confuses everyone, but means it's not accessible to the Boy.
