If I could wave a magic wand, well, I probably wouldn't use it for Scrabble purposes initially.  But if that wand was limited to Scrabble tricks, pulling 5 bingoes (4 consecutive) out of a hat in the last game of a tourney to seal up second place, finish in the money, and grab 15 rating points would be quite the trick.  But we'll get to that game ( Read more... )

It's gotta be psychological, right? Short of shutting down the board, you should play normally even if you're down a quick 60-80 points, it would seem. I tend to eschew scoring for rack management or opening lanes all the time when I'm down, and that certainly can't be right in every position. This is why I like my Boggle, you don't have to choose between words/plays like this. :)

Yes, I remember noticing how weird it is that DEMISTER doesn't have a verb attached -- it's like PEWTERER.

I would attempt to give strategic advice but have neither the skill nor the authority to do so, so I'll just say that it's a shame you can't play again soon -- you're plenty good, you made some high-level finds, and I still think you're nowhere near your short-term rating ceiling.

Thanks, and believe me it's addicting, especially after a tourney like this. Then again I could really use this summer to beef up my bingo knowledge (there are just so many 8's I haven't seen, let alone know) and work on my board vision and strategy. I'd like to be good enough that by the time next year's EC rolls around, I don't embarrass myself in D1.

And believe me, I certainly don't have the authority to turn down strategy from anybody, so feel free to add thoughts here whenever.
