That's a really interesting new view of the situation; I don't think I've ever seen Gene being pulled in to what Sam is experiencing before. That's a really neat way to present things.
"Do you?" Gene asks. "Do you believe in me?"
"I don't think I would still be here," [Sam] says, "if I didn't."
That's a nice insight into Sam's mind - he's sort of afraid that by believing that this is all real, he is keeping himself there, whereas if he went with "this is all a dream" he could get back. Nice analysis.
"Your world," Gene says disbelievingly. "Then what the hell do you think this is?"
Sam shrugs, and won't quite meet his eyes. "I've kind of just been thinking of it as yours."
Gene refers to it as 'my kingdom', 'my city' and 'my team', he's very much the boss and in control, while Sam has been demoted and is stuck in a place that he really doesn't fit into. It's a world that Gene controls, not Sam, and I love how in-character that thought is.
Nice twist on the end. I really enjoyed this. Great job getting into Gene's head. It must be very difficult for him b/c as a cop he'll want to save people, and here he can't even save the guy standing next to him. Very intriguing insight there.
