In his quest to become the MOST EXPENSIVE CAT EVER, dear Basil has destroyed my laptop. This is bad news because my big bang art is due Nov 18 and I am not going to have the replacement computator in time to finish the piece I have already logged many, many hours into.

I have enough time left to redraw the whole thing and color it traditionally, so ( Read more... )

Suggest you use iPad for dedicated writing time. Make time in your schedule for late evenings at work or lunches at your desk when you have a specific problem that someone joining you on gdocs could actually help with, and when such person is likely to be available.

Also, your iPad isn't THAT fragile. I mean, if you drop it onto concrete it's probably not going to be happy, but it's not going to die if you use it as a coaster or something.

I could totally lend you a laptop if you lived, you know, here-ish. :-(

lol

Move to New Zealand to borrow janice_lester's laptop. Unorthodox, but I like it :D

re: iPad and fragility - Me and apple products haven't had a very good history. I'm a klutz, and not of the charming and endearing variety, more just randomly spastic at the worst possible time. I'm on my 2nd iPhone (after 4 blackberries), 4th iPod and the first thing I did when I took the iPad out of the box was drop it (it's OK! This time). It may be a strong-ishly designed piece of tech, but it's up against some scary odds. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE DANI FACTOR.

He's not EVIL. Really. Just... rambunctious.

And selectively destructive.

With expensive taste.

And poor timing XD

...

HE'S VERY CUTE.

I can't imagine typing on a novel on an ipad! GAH!!

I picked the living at work option even though it obviously doesn't sound ideal, but maybe you could hang out at a friend's house?? One who has an extra computer? LOL

Another idea... hand write and then wait till you have access to a computer, THEN type it out. Of course I've never had an ipad and the idea of typing on one of those things sounds like a complete headache. Maybe it's better than handwriting but it doesn't sound like it to me. LOL

Oooo Can I be your nano buddy??? Here's my page: http://nanowrimo.org/en/participants/irishgirl982 Yay! So Excited!

lol @ writing longhand! NO. No. HELL NO.

I don't write cohesively or chronologically, I jump ALL OVER THE PLACE. Figuring that out by hand is awul (I've tried! I start writing in margins and down the page and sideways trying to cram in everything else I want to say in a paragraph!) *shudder*

I've got a wireless keyboard and an origami stand for my ipad-laptop. Imma go to a write-in tomorrow and TRY TO USE THIS THING.

I've buddied with you on nano. I'm mdevile :D

I seem to be in the minority, but god I hate iPads. My dad has one that he uses around the house, and it is the most godawful thing to type on, so I would do pretty much anything to avoid having to do that.

(Also, this is sadly reminiscent of what happened to me last year. Exactly a year ago, my dog decided it would be fun to sit on my laptop, and she broke the casing around my screen, so the screen fell out, rendering it basically useless. The day before NaNoWriMo. I busted my ass up to Best Buy and dropped $700 on a new Toshiba, which should have been a crapshoot, but has actually turned out to be my favorite laptop I've had yet.)

I've seen some people do some pretty neat stuff with the ipad. I'm just not one of them (argh! I will have to write a rant on my Quest for a Functional Stylus)

But, I've got a wireless keyboard and an origami stand so I'm going to TRY to make a go of this Pages madness. Worse comes to worst, I will switch back to gdocs if it's just not working XD

(you understand my pain! I heart my cats, I really do, but OMG Basil, why? WHHHYYYYYYYY???)
