Update on the cats

Charlie's fine. The vet couldn't find anything wrong with her (though they didn't do any bloodwork because it wasn't indicated). So basically, her problem is probably that she's still a little too feral. Anyone got any suggestions for taming a 1-yr old cat who spent probably about the first 6-8 months of her life as a feral kitty ( Read more... )

I'm glad Charlie is ok. Did they not test for FIV before they accepted the cats? And put them with other cats?

Just be patient with Charlie and give her lots of lovin and treats.

If a cat has had FIV in the house, can you even house other cats there? (or is that FeLV?) I know there was one contagious cat disease where you had to burn all the cat's stuff if you ever wanted a cat in the same house again. I am surprised the shelter didn't test the cats for FIV before giving them to you, too. ALl the ferret rescues here test for a similar thing (I am forgetting what it is specifically - it may even have the same acronym) before they accept or place ferrets.

But you are a very good person to take this on. I hope the kitties are OK.

they *were* tested before they were taken into the kennel. From my understanding, it was just the two of them housed together in the kennel without exposure to others, then taken straight from there to here. Charlie did spend time with two different foster parents during the few months she's been in the program, but she's not the one they're worried about ( ... )
