I liked Lisa's call better, but that's because I'm a) definitely biased and b) it relates more specifically - "specifically" here meaning "exactly" - with my research.
My proposal could work for either panel, but I submitted to Lisa's - I'm not sure how many other submissions she's received, though, and I know that it's not good form to cross-submit.
I'm with thefuriouscynic on this, I'd much rather go and dice with a brief that reads: Lacanian theorist Slavoj Zizek’s work addresses an impressively wide range of texts, thinkers and materials, including a large number of film texts, movements and directors. Alongside his analyses of Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch, Neil Jordan, Lars von Trier and film noir, Zizek often references popular cinema, Hollywood classical cinema, art cinema and television; however, his work on film is rarely analyzed within the frames of cinema studies or film theory. Rather than merely inviting applications of Zizek’s theories, this panel thus seeks papers that engage critically with Zizek’s connections to and contemplations of film texts, theory or history. Papers may take a single film, director, movement or concept as their focus but presenters are also encouraged to consider wider questions of film studies and theory as they relate to Zizek’s work, influence and thought
