Yukio had had a lot to think about during the last few days. The arrival of his father had thrown him through a loop, but he was adjusting admirably well for someone his his position. Of course, now the sudden spike of disappearances had set him on edge again (well, more so than he was usually), and in spite of the urge to hoard his family in one place for a sense of pseudo-safety, he also needed time away.

Not that foraging through the ruins of Nesreca was a particularly uplifting activity, but it served as a decent enough distraction. Walking and rummaging didn't require deep thinking. Just careful footing and an ear out for the unexpected... and this was certainly unexpected.

Ears perked and eyes alert, Yukio poked his head around a large chunk of concrete, blinking curiously at the sight of his new friend and his... guitar?

As Kiriko sped headlong into a more upbeat tune, he couldn't help the smile that spread across his face. He was so absorbed in the music, in fact, that he didn't even notice Yukio's presence.

Music was always somewhat of a guilty pleasure for him, and if he had seen Yukio peek around the corner he would have stopped immediately. It was a habit to practice in private - since he had been forced to choose between his mother and father's professions, it was silently understood he would forfeit the chance to be a part of whatever choice he didn't make. And his Dad had, indeed, completely forbid Kiriko to pursue his love of music the moment he had enrolled in medical school. But that wasn't the end of Kiriko's private preformances...

When he joined his father and became immortal, it wouldn't matter. He would have all the time in eternity to do whatever he wanted. But for now... for now, he enjoyed the secrecy.

At least, he thought it would remain a secret.

Yukio remained silent, content to let Kiriko continue playing uninterrupted. Music wasn't something he'd thought too much about at home, but he'd noticed its absence in Nesreca. It had always been a constant before, but Nesreca was so... quiet. Aside from the occasional shout or crash of something breaking, but that wasn't even close to the same thing.

Once the song came to what Yukio assumed was its end he stepped out from behind his cover, clearing his throat quietly.

"You're very good, Kiriko-san."

"Wah!"

Kiriko sprang from the piece of rubble he had been seated on and the guitar tumbled from his lap with an out-of-tune crash. Like a cat caught with the canary he turned guiltily to the voice he had heard - and his shoulders sank with relief. It was only Yukio. If it had been anyone else, he might have died from the shock of embarrassment. He hadn't been terrific with keeping up a tough image this month, that was for sure.

"Y-Yukio! You scared the shit out of me!"
