The group comes through Nita's door and ends up in Grand Central Station. It's late; no one's around except some guards, somewhere, and probably Rhiow and her team. Nita and her passenger, having energy to spare, handle the translocation spell that gets them into the atrium of the Library itself ( Read more... )

Kit beams at Ronan, and then at Moiraine, and most of him wants to just hang on to Nita, but he knows she's back, and knows she won't be going anywhere - and Ronan's had this experience, whereas he -

Well, he can help Havelock and Gavroche, that's for certain.

Calm enough, now, with Moiraine doing what she can and being able to sense Nita there, again, Kit joins the other two in finishing off the remaining trouble.

Before the NYPD shows up.

Actually, Nita's already seen to the NYPD, with a little help from a dark-clad friend (not all shades of Black are alike).

Which is why Agent K is striding into the Reading Room, looking like he owns the place (and with the Men in Black, you never can be sure...). He pauses for a moment to scan the room, then whips out an especially slim Blackberry. "Zed, we need a containment and clean-up crew at the NYPL. Milliways personnel onsite, departing soon. Situation under control."

Slipping the Blackberry back into his Suit, K walks over, not quite able to conceal a sympathetic smile. "Ms. Callahan, how many times do we have to remind you about opening unauthorized portals within City limits?"

The smile shifts to concern, though, when K sees Nita unconscious on the floor. He looks to the rest of the group.

"Ahhh shut it, y'effin' tosser," Ronan wheezes from the floor.

He rolls over and struggles to sit, finally managing to prop himself up against a library table.

"As many as it takes, I suspect," she answers, if wearily, looking up at K with an assessing glance. The Aes Sedai seems to be visibly gathering the remnants of her energy, preparing herself for something.

One hand is still resting lightly on Nita's abdomen, just over a large bloodstain.

"She will be well enough, I think," Moiraine adds, not unkindly.

There is a distinct impression that if Filif had eyes, he would be rolling them at Ronan. He thinks at first, with the unlikely logic of the exhausted, to heal the younger wizard's arm, before realizing how impossible that would be after the energy expended.

There's a lot he might say to K, on the other hand, but the afore-mentioned exhaustion and shock of Nita's return has made his thoughts sluggish.

"Are you from Milliways?" he rustles, quietly.

K doesn't miss Ronan's comment, but he's been around Milliways too long not to make special allowances for its patrons. Instead he nods to Moraine in thanks and then turns to Filif.

"Milliways. And other places. Even made it out to Demisiv a few years back."

Turning to the rest of the group, he adds. "My name's K. I'm here at Nita's request to run interference for you with the local authorities. They're going to be asking a lot of questions. I'll make sure they don't get any answers."

He thumbs back at the remains of the creatures. "And I'll have a crew handle the clean up detail while I'm at it."

"That, I am certain, is very much appreciated."

She takes a steadying breath and then gets slowly to her feet. Although she is a small woman, bloodstained now and visibly exhausted, there is nothing of uncertainty and much of near-regal authority about her as she continues,

"Havelock, carry Nita, if you would. Kit, Gavroche-- assist Ronan and Filif."

The Aes Sedai meets K's glance and finishes,

"I am Moiraine Sedai, and I thank you for your assistance here. I shall be interested in speaking with you again at Milliways, but for now, I suspect that it would be best were we to be gone before more arrive. I believe I can still manage a portal, unless there is another way?"

"There is." K replies. "Or at least, there's supposed to be." He looks around the room until his gaze settles on a small door, apparently giving access to a storage room for the staff. "That should be it there."

Sure enough, when K opens it, the familiar sight of Milliways can be seen through the doorway. "The bureau has some experience with portals too, but I'm more willing than my chief to admit this one has more to do with the good graces of the Landlord than our tech. Anyway, it'll get you back."

"I'd appreciate your letting Nita know I'll make sure the evidence of your visit is taken care of before I come back."

Havelock had been eyeing K, but Moiraine's quiet order recieves a nod, and he kneels down on Nita's other side to carefully pick her up - gently, and without jolting her as far as possible. He might be smiling, very faintly.

That air of command from the woman in blue momentarily reminded him entirely too much of his aunt. Shifting to let the girl's head rest against his shoulder without slipping, he stands up, glancing at the Aes Sedai again.

"I think the infirmary, yes?"

It's so easy to slip back into taking orders.

"I believe that would be the best place, yes," Moiraine tells him, then turns to K as the group begins to move slowly toward the door.

"You may be certain that we will see to it. Light illumine and protect you, K. We will meet again, I suspect."

She gives him a small nod of farewell, then glides after the others, through the portal into Milliways.

The door shuts behind them.
