Dreamwidth is built on the LiveJournal code by people who used to work for LiveJournal, and now they're launching their own site. They're developing some really great features like splitting the flist into watch/trust (so you can subscribe to someone's journal without giving them access to your friends-only posts), easier layout customization, cross-site compatability (post to LJ and Dreamwidth at the same time), no ads, and they've got a lot more planned. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.
