Every time I turn around we're having meetings about bullying. No one has tried suicide yet, but we have at least 2 kids who refuse to come to school.
Part of the problem (in my humble opinion) is that parents put a lot of pressure on the teachers to fix things, but don't always reinforce the discipline at home. For example, if my mother learned I had teased someone or hit them or was nasty in any way you better believe I'd have been grounded and she would have made me call them to apologize!
When a girl was being bullied you know what her mother did? Called the homeroom teacher at 4am in the morning and TOLD her to do something about it. This is a small town...everyone knows everyone. Why the hell didn't she talk to the mothers of the other students? Oh no, let's make sure the poor teachers aren't getting any sleep.

I feel that BOTH parents and the teachers have their faults.... Parents shouldn't PUSH all the responsibilities on teachers....but teachers are also supposed to accept some responsibilities, I think.... I know that some kids find it hard to discuss about bullying with their parents. In that case, they should search for help in teachers. If that happens, then teachers must do all that they can do.
I know that it doesn't help anything when the ADULTS are being stupid and blaming each others like that though.... *sigh*
