That is an example of something the serious costume historians find very annoying - the leaders/ buyers for all kind of singing/dancing groups buy costumes that either look best to their eye (the "miinikollane" of Muhu skirts sure is eyecatching!) or, I suppose, that are available. And not that the costumes follow the place the group comes from.

The Estonian National Museum has been publishing tiny volumes of such historic titbits and I cannot resist them! I did not know about the keep beds free for the souls of the dead/ improve your health by sleeping in hay part myself before looking it up for words to go with the card!

Of course he does - I suppose the hay is very prikly against nude body.

Also - the unfortunate result of muscle-worship for male nudes is that these models cannot look both relaxed and with muscles on display.

I would prefer relaxed, but I am aware that I am not the intended audience for such photos.

My postcard arrived! Actually it got here when the LJ attacks were really bad, and I couldn't get on to let you know. It is a lovely card. I want to frame it or use it somehow like that. Will have to give it more thought when we get settled again.

THANK YOU!

I am glad you liked it! For me these cards from nineteen sixties are the best. I think I must one day scan more of them (the aunt also kept the cards she received and I love them, too) and show them here!
