Review/preview websites?

I was just wondering where everyone likes to go to get the scoop on up-and-coming games.  I've been on IGN for awhile, but I'm disappointed with their slow load times and bad reviews.  When I say "bad" reviews, I mean they review games badly.  Not always, mind you, but I've missed out on some sweet games just because they gave it a low score.  On ( Read more... )

I never pay attention to review numbers, I read the reviews themselves, and go to GBAtemp for releases.

I'm feeling the same way about ign right now. www.1up.com is pretty handy. It looks a lot like ign, though, but they're pretty entertaining. If you really want to know if a game is good or not, I'd check out the reviews online stores get it (like amazon). Usually the majority is right about a game over there, but that's just been my experience (and I am a bit of a sheep ^_^). Also, the other lj gaming communities have good information :D The members here, girl_gamers and gamers are pretty knowledgeable. Hope you find what you're looking for.

I agree about 1up, there are a few guys whose reviews I really like :) Jeremy Parish always does a good review- even if I like a game more/less than he does, I get why he's said what he's said.

that's what i look for. they generally do a good job describing the actual content of the game. and that is far more valuble to me then arbitrary number.

Metacritic.com is good for getting an average of all reviews. IGN is usually on-point with crap games (like "Touch Detective" or "Steambot Chronicle"), but goes waaaaay overboard when they love a game, giving near-perfect reviews to severely-flawed games without mentioned those extant flaws.

Reviewers nowadays aren't good as it was back then in the 80s/90s. Oh hang on, that was before the Internet boom...

Anyone can be a reviewer but ho hum...
