Akira sits alone in a school cafeteria, staring at his hands as they rest flat on the table. He doesn't like his hands. They're small. The arms of his winter uniform need to be let in a little bit

*When his face flickers onto the screen of the Hitomi, his expression is one that's surprisingly soft.
This was what he'd been worried about -- that this device, this Hitomi would be able to show dreams. The brief respite of privacy he thought he had is clearly not here in this world as well. It makes him wonder what this place really is; a part of him thinks it's just another dreamworld.
But this dream. It's unlike anything he's seen before. Dreams in that other place weren't nearly this vivid, this real. Those emotions. Thoughts. It was so intense. Like living for a moment as this boy who fights monsters filled with swordteeth.
He's talented, but Kakashi knew that to begin with.*
Akira-kun. *He says, mostly to get the kid's attention.*
[ HAVE A TOBI TOTALLY CONFUSED, STARING AT THE SCREEN FOR A MOMENT. And then he leans in REALLY CLOSE so just this big orange mask is filling the screen with a dark shadowed hole cut out for the space of his eye that's cast in shadow.]
Who are you and HOW DID YOU GET INTO THIS THINGAMAJIG and WHAT KIND OF STRANGE JUTSU WAS THAT?!
[ At which point the Hitomi jiggles about and he stretches his arm out with it revealing some of his cloak -- a black one with red trimmings and some cloud shapes -- before bringing it back in all close again. ]
Are you some kind of strange little fairy?
[TOBI APPARENTLY ASSUMES THAT HE'S ACTUALLY IN THE HITOMI.]
[Have a bewildered sharkman holding his Hitomi, staring at the screen for a long moment and looking visibly a little shaken; this was not what he had been expecting from the little device. He starts turning it over in his hands to try and figure out just what the thing is, offering flashes of a gleaming ring and dark purple nailpolish.]
A genjutsu....? [That's the only explanation he can think of that would make any sense whatsoever, honestly.]
[A moment of thoughtful, mildly awkward silence, and Kisame offers him a crooked smile, carefully kept small so he won't flash his teeth. The situation is just weird enough that it somehow seems to demand an injection of something utterly mundane, like small talk.] Nice moves, by the way. You're pretty fast.
Don't worry about it. S'not like anyone got involved with this on purpose.
[ Akira's less flustered now, gazing into the device curiously. Something seems a little different... well, there are all kinds of people here, aren't there? He's quiet as he watches the guy talk and try and recoup the situation. So far as his abilities and what he did in his world, he's decided to keep mum on the subject in such a public place. So. Have a small teenager rolling his eyes. ]
It was just a dream. Everyone knows dreams are just random crap.
[A long stretch of silence as Gai looks at the screen, expression soft and serious. He doesn't entirely understand the dream, but it makes him feel unsettled, distinctly sick to his stomach. A fair part of it is alien--those strange creatures that he assumes are summons of some sort, the way this Takumi disappeared--, but enough of it is familiar to hit home, too familiar.... Masks and false faces, love, death, the insinuations of honorable suicide.... But the bandages? What was the significance of that?]
[Finally, he says the only thing he really can, to a complete stranger. There are other things he could say, he knows, and probably better things.... but ones that he can't reach yet, not without at least some acquaintance between them.] Are you alright?
[ Akira frowns intensely at this particular stranger on the device. There's something about his voice, how it's so serious and yet empathetic, that he just doesn't know what to make of. He almost seems touched by the words for a split second, as if it takes him a moment to wake up and remember who he is. ]
I'm kinda pissed everyone just saw it, but other than that, I'm fine! It's just a stupid dream.
[Gai's expression rolls from serious and concerned to an encouraging smile; Akira's spunk is refreshing, and he seems to be recovering from the dream alright. Gai won't badger a stranger senselessly about something that might only upset him. But if Kakashi were in on this conversation, he would know that saying anything is ever "just a stupid dream" is like begging Gai to start gearing up for a Most Passionate Speech on dreams and their incredible importance. His voice is lighter in tone now, more spirited and friendly, but just as serious--if not heartier and more authoritative than before, as Gai seeks to teach Akira a Very Important Lesson.]
Nothing is ever just a mere dream, young man! Nor can any dream be dismissed as simple, stupid, or irrelevant! All dreams hold meaning and significance to the human heart and spirit!
[Akira's expression in reply is completely unimpressed. He's pretty much expecting Gai to strike a pose or yell a slogan or wear a magical girl uniform at this point. His voice is total a deadpan.]
Next you're going to tell me to join your sentai or something, and that everything's solved with the power of love and friendship, right?

Ah, well... *Pauses* You just had a dream. And if I have to guess anyone in this world just saw it on this device.
