I know I read too many spoilers and watch too many preview videos and check out too many promo photos. I know this. My problem with last night isn't even the obvious bait and switch.
My first thought, although you have made me rethink it, was the Royce was trying to tell Beckett that what she had with him wasn't real, that it was a crush and he knew instantly what he saw between her and Castle was different. I'm quite willing to admit that it doesn't make Royce any less Mary Sue-y or the whole letter premise much less ridiculous but it made me feel better.
I'm not sure what I think about the whole next step, but I can't ever fully ship characters on procedurals with a relationship set-up on banter and UST. I hope they make whatever they do believable though, cuz I'll be really annoyed otherwise. *nods firmly*
The believability is one of my main concerns right now. Well, that and how cliffhanger-y the cliffhanger might be. I will angst all summer, I have no doubt.
The best solution would be to get them together, but keep it non-chalant. Keep the banter and the work relationship in there with maybe some over protectiveness from Castle and eye rolling, I-can-take-care-of-myself-stop-worrying-so-much from Beckett. It would be a "healthy" relationship.
Plus you could have such great fish out of water-y moments with Castle trying to be blue collar and Beckett totally not caring about the trappings of his fame. :)
Also wouldn't it be great to see more "healthy" relationships on TV?

THIS ex-ACT-ly. I get that I'm not indicative of the typical audience for most shows I obsess over, but I can't see how this could hurt the show. The thing about Castle as a series premise is that him chasing her is kind of the POINT. I get that that means him catching her changes things, but on the other hand, him never getting her gets old and just makes it harder for things to casually bantery forever.
The writers shouldn't have put them so close to being together if it isn't going to happen yet. *crosses arms and pouts*
That does sound ludicrous. I don't think it's technically Mary Sue-ism, either classic or colloquial, but it's definitely lazy plotting and poor characterization.
Have you seen canonrants? It's like fanficrants, only for, y'know, canon/source texts. Hint, hint. :)
canonrants was... interesting... Someone likened Flynn cutting Rapunzel's hair in Tangled to, uh, rape, which was, um, a bit extreme. I love how you send me down rabbit holes so very casually... :)
In my defense, I hadn't read that entry. I think I was a bit blinded by wanting more traffic over there. You'd think it'd be busier. That said: sorry, dude. ;)
Watched the first two eps of Castle. I don't get chemistry off them yet, but it's fun, and I can see potential there.
After watching this episode my biggest concern is what they will do next season. If I take my shippy hat off, I still believe that we have reached a point where they can get together without killing the show.
As far as Royce in some terms telling Kate that it was okay to be with Castle, I found a bit odd and unrealistic. I'll give him that Royce knew Kate for many years as he trained her and worked with her BUT he knows nothing about Castle. How can he be sure that Castle is the right guy for her? To me Royce seemed the wrong person to be giving relationship advice to Kate, anyone else in the show I would have been fine with.
I will be curious to see what they will do with it in the finale as I have reading some spoilers and how they handle it once the next season begans.

YES! Thank you! Seriously? He's that good a judge of character in a few minutes with them? I can't even. The whole thing was O_o.
