Two of the many reasons I <3 Stana Katic

May 02, 2010 11:49

(A) She is very very pretty; (B) she doesn't believe in the Moonlighting curse.

(Mr. Fillion, you are also very very pretty and I <3 you too, but knock it off with the Moonlighting references already. Unless you want us to believe you and Stana actually hate each other. :-P)

castle, stana katic

I couldn't agree more! The 'Moonlighting' curse really annoys me! The show fell apart because the actors didn't get along ad because the writers got David and Maddie together only to keep them apart for almost a whole season where they didn't even work together. THAT'S why the show jumped the Shark.

I have faith that the Castle writers could pull off a relationship between them without killing the show. I would just really like them to have the guts to try it.

I think the Moonlighting "curse" has become a lazy reference for TV writers. It probably seems easier to write UST/banter than to write a long-term relationship. But if long-term relationships aren't fun, why are so many of us in them? :-D

I love Stana so, so much for that.

Don't get me started on the "Moonlighting Curse" thing, ugh. Stupidity of stupidities.

Someday I will write an essay (really a LiveJournal rant) on why the Moonlighting curse is like the Macbeth curse.

The gist of it (I know, I know, I should just write the essay) is that Macbeth is considered bad luck in the theater world because it was so popular that it was often the last play that a failing theater would perform before they closed their doors for good. How this transformed into saying Macbeth is bad luck, I don't know, but I think that the comparison to the Moonlighting curse is solid.

So as long as you don't have your characters "get together" because your show is failing, then your show shouldn't fail when they do.

I'd rather that showrunners believe in the Twin Peaks curse (which I just made up), a lesson in not stringing your viewers along too long without some sort of (ahem) satisfaction, or else they'll decide to go elsewhere.

Agreed-shows wait too long to get characters together because they're afraid the show will fail, and then they wait too long until the show is failing to pair the characters up. It's too little, too late.

Hope you do write that essay. And thanks for all your lovely comments lately! I haven't been too active but it's nice to know people are still enjoying the fic. :-)
