Incidentally, I asked about Witchcraft game system a while back. We're going to be starting a game soon using those mechanics, but we're playing ordinary mundane characters and we don't know what sort of a game (genre-wise) its going to be. Its surprisingly difficult roleing up characters with nothing special about them whatsoever.
Mundane characters tend to be very overpowered in at least one respect (be it mental or physical) as they have a *lot* of points that they aren't spending on funky powers. Saying that they can be beaten down by a ghost with a grudge (As well as a host of other supernaturals) just because they don't have a way of fighting back. If I were you I’d go down the Call of Kthulu route of character generation and have someone with some serious contacts or backgrounds that allow them access to "Forbidden Lore(tm)" whist keeping them at a safe enough distance to not be emerged in it. As a mundane, be prepared to be going "huh?!" a lot.
