Douchebags.

Back in Feb, my dad was visiting a relative in Wales who happens to live on one of the many narrow, residential roads with parked cars on either side that Wales seems to be made up of. He was slowly moving down the road, looking for a parking space when he noticed a car coming the other way. He decided to edge as close to the side as possible to ( Read more... )

Insurance is a tricky game, the whole "where there's a blame, there's a claim" is a pain in the proverbial but many people do take the mickey. Insurance is a big legalised version of a scam and the number one rule is to never admit fault (even if it was your fault).

I don't think a crappy Ford Focus would require over £1000 for paintwork, it's probably well on it's way to being a rust bucket anyway. I just hope your dad manages to get it all sorted without too much trouble on the insurance and legal side of things.

I'm not even entirely sure what the point of not admitting fault is in a situation where it is clearly and undoubtedly your fault? XD

I'm just baffled that they decided to forego insurance altogether (despite it being the easiest option with the same favourable outcome for them) and make it a court matter...

It looks like we can still push it to my dad's insurance anyway, 'cos apparently if we send them the court papers then they'll sort it out...

Never say that it is your fault, it's to do with liability. If you say more than your contact details, you're giving them evidence to use against you and your insurance company will not be able to do much about it. You do tell your own insurance that it was your fault but you don't want the other party to use it against you in court.

This is the insurance game.

What shitheads. Sounds like your Dad needs to get some kind of help for this. I'd go to the Citizen's Advice Bureau or something.
