Welcome to science. I just spent the last year running PCR after PCR and not getting the results I want, we're getting random fragments and we don't know why, and no good results. I spent 4 months chasing up what we discovered to be random eronious bands. One girl in the lab spent 2 1/2 years doing positional cloning to find her gene.

My honours project went a similar route as well - simple techniques, abject unexplainable failure. I think I'm just getting rather annoyed that all my projects seem to turn out like this.
