Those damned cats!

A while ago, someone reported me to the RSPCA for neglecting my cats. (I may even have found the person who did it because, one night (before the Lockdown), a woman hammered on the door and said, "That cat is crying with cold and hunger!" to which I replied, "It's not my cat!" And, when I mentioned that someone had reported me to the RSPCA for ( Read more... )

I feel for you, Felix and Bailey don't seem to be interested in hunting but I did find a live mouse in the hall a few years back and I don't think he climbed through the cat flap himself!

How is lockdown going?

At least it didn't bring the bird inside -- I hadn't thought of that!

I'm finding Lockdown pretty miserable, I'm kind of ashamed to say. How are you doing?

The rotten little buggers! Our visiting cat is a nasty piece of work, too.

It is good to see you around, too.

I know! I think they've decided I'm in their territory and need seeing off.

I've been trying to post for a while but everything I've written has turned into "Waaaaaaah!"

At the moment this is actually a really good place to go Waaaah!

I have friends all over the world basically going Waaah! every so often and then feeling much better for it.

Waving madly at you. Lovely to see your name pop up.

Hmm, it does sound as if that lady was the one who reported you a few months back. Cats are little terrors aren't they!

Love the pics, especially the one at night with the fairy lights.

Stay safe and healthy, my dear.

Hello! I was in your neck of the woods about 6 weeks ago (though it seems like a lifetime ago now). I miss the trees, the sea and the mountains!

Stay safe, too!

Cats are little horrors with birds etc. Mine can’t get at the feeders fortunately and I get a lot of birds in the garden. You need to have feeders near to somewhere birds can fly back to hide. So my most popular feeders are hear large shrubs and trees. The birds whiz back and forth from feeder to branch to hide. Maybe you need to reconsider where your feeder is. Of course you have to make sure the feeders are far enough away from branches so that squirrels can’t jump from one to the other.

The cats have obviously decided that my house is part of their territory (and that they need to see me off ;-)

Unfortunately, the closest trees are about 40 feet away, so I don't think birds are ever going to feel safe. I used to have a huge fuchsia in my front garden, and there was a nest in that, but my brother cut it right back last summer (partly because it was about nine feet high and had begun to block the footpath and partly because he can't be trusted with secateurs). He claims it will grow back.

It will... we had one in the tiny front garden at the old house that D-d and her Nana grew from a cutting. It took over the entire space, strangled the roses, attempted to eat passers-by - and S2C used to go out there with the hedge trimmer a couple of times a year and try to hack it to death.

It always, always, grew back. Eventually we got someone in to cut it to ground level and then dig out as much of the roots as possible, before paving the entire space. When we left there was a small, identical, fuchsia which was growing up between the paving slabs in the garden next door...

At least it ate the bird.
In 30 years I never, until this last couple of years, had birds in my back garden, either. I put it down to the seagulls as well as the local cats. We actually have fewer of both those now and I have a blackbird. Yay.

Yes -- I think maybe the woman was right when she said that the cats are hungry.

Maybe the blackbird will bring some friends!
