Embarrassingly, my entire knowledge of the Ring Cycle is derived from Anna Russell's routine on the subject, and considering that the Seattle Opera stages the entire Ring Cycle every four years or so I no longer have an excuse not to see any of them. (Though I know I'm going to be hearing Anna Russell's voice in my head every now and then, saying "Please bear in mind that this is the only woman Siegfried has ever come across who hasn't been his aunt!") Do you have any recommendations for a starter Ring Cycle opera or are they best watched in order?

I can never see George Osborne's name mentioned without thinking of the character in Vanity Fair. I wonder if his parents didn't know, or knew and didn't care?
