Wimseyfic fragment: We are orphans and fatherless

I have already made the mistake of taking a crackfic premise and thinking that it would be fun to explore it properly, it won’t really take too long... Having learned from this, I therefore give you as much as “Bunter and Lord Saint-George unexpectedly find themselves taking care of a mysterious baby” as there is ever likely to be.

We are orphans ( Read more... )

As crackfic goes, that's pretty good :-)

That mite is in good hands. I bet Bunter has hidden skills with cloth diapers! Not to mention the detectin'.

Bunter is of course a whizz at anything he puts his hands to. (The hideous fluff version of this story involves him ending up adopting the baby. If I ever write that you will know that I have been kidnapped and it's a cry for help.)

It's the mystery-solving duo that I didn't even know I wanted!

Oh this sounds like an intriguing mess they've gotten into...a malicious part of me can't help hoping it *is* Lord Peter's, for maximum embarrassment.

The embarrassment quotient for that one would be excellent.

After spending all the time since he met Harriet in determined celibacy, Peter decides to have a one night stand shortly before the wedding to make sure his technique is still up to scratch...

Wonderful! Are we going to find out whose it is?

I'm assuming it's Helen's and Gerald has taken pity on the poor mite by handing it off to Peter and Harriet, whose own children appear to be rather fun and well-adjusted.

Helen with a mid-forties baby is a fic plot I've never seen, but it would be hilarious.

I would love to read that. I'm imagining her torn between fury at having to Go Through All That Again (maintaining a figure flat in both aspects takes enough effort!) and relief at having a potential spare if/when St. George gets himself killed in a car, plane, or some grisly combination of the two. She really wouldn't be happy with a girl, though.
