I invested in Scrivener a couple of years ago. Because I also have a very long WIP which is in disarray by now with umpteen drafts and different scenes in different places. I'm not using it--I do think it would be extremely helpful, but I couldn't gather up the energy to sit there and actually learn it well enough for it to be useful. I think if you're willing to put in the time to learn it (they have all sorts of tutorials, but it would take many hours, portioned out over several days) it's a good thing. But my god I just couldn't face putting in the time.

Now that you've reminded me, maybe I'll try again over the holidays to master the thing.

Having to learn it sounds like a potential challenge. I confess to being lazy at this sort of thing, I don't always fare well with obstacles/lots of set-up for something that is a tool rather than an end in itself. That said, I wouldn't be thinking of using it for an existing WIP, for which I am just sticking to the mass of paper, but to start a new one. I see they have free trials so I might try that.

I had two meetings at work today. Both have been cancelled.

Congratulations! I wasn't so lucky today, but since I have a meeting once in a blue moon, I can't complain.

I know that feeling when scheduling fun things seems like work. Maybe over the weekend when you've more energy!

I don't normally have loads of meetings, but this week seems to have been crammed with them, plus several projects to get out, so it is really not good timing. Normally I don't mind them as a break in routine, but right now I have had enough!

I think I may well end up at a 4 o'clock cinema showing or something on Sunday. Especially if it is raining!

Post-it notes on the dining room wall is how I organise fic notes. It has an unexpected side benefit in that if you have people coming to stay you have to choose: either explain what the wall of post-it notes is for, or just write the fic so that you can take them down.

Given the longevity of some of my fic-writing, I suspect that post-it notes on the wall would lead mainly to patterns on the wall. I can see the theory, though!

When I'm writing long things I usually end up with two files which I work on side by side; one ends up with all the deleted bits I might want later, research bits, and things like that, the other ends up with the finished story. It's not the most efficient system in the world and if Scrivener looks really good I may look into that.

I also want to see Carol and am somewhat annoyed that several October movies already seem to be long gone from the theaters. It's a little horrifying to realize how few movies I see now which aren't fully or partially animated. (The new Star Wars may fall into this category as well, of course, though I've heard that Abrams backed off on the All Green Screens All The Time policy of the prequels so there's hope yet).
