"keep in mind that that I live in an area where bangers are considered exotic"

Semi-inspired by this baffling question in which an American is perplexed by a sausage:

Poll

good or bad, pork products, polls, food

Sausages are best cooked in griddle pan, thus preventing them from turning over all the damn time when you're trying to cook them on all sides.

"If they're good sausages poach them first - 70C for 20 mins - before frying on a quite low heat so they don't burst."

Does this actually work, or is it just a reminder that regardless of election results Americans are mental?

I could imagine this would be helpful with a barbeque if you are the sort of prude who hates carbon but it sounds like an immense amount of fannying around for the kitchen.

Yes, I would prefer to fry but I don't have a heavy bottomed pan or the time.

(a) I have no idea what a martinet is. However, i think Martin should have a trio of backing singers and/or kung fu henchgirls called the Martinettes.

(b) The brown stuff that forms on the bottom of a frying pan is not caramel. Caramel is burnt sugar, and sausages do not contain very much sugar. This man Fort is a simpleton, and certainly no sausage apostle.

Where's the correct answer? BBQ 'em! Till they're black!

I either grill them or put them in a pan and add a little sherry/red wine to add the awesome.
