Wow, when it comes to our perceived infuence on publishers, we sure are a cynical bunch.

(The expanded version of my answer is that it depends on the publisher and on the fan, but given the either/or nature of the poll I thought 'false' was much closer to being the case than 'true.')

Transparently false to say "New Weird doesn't mean anything to anybody"; did anyone actually make this claim?

I don't think it was a marketing exercise, but i do think it was a clique-building exercise amongst authors; China and all the other cool kids got to be in the New Weird gang, away from all the smelly old modern fantasy writers.
