Breakin' The Law

Well, my no book buying resolution is well and truely broken. I nipped into Waterstone's at lunchtime yesterday and as I had hoped/expected they had added Philip Reeve's Mortal Engines to their award winning children's books table and hence their 3 for 2 offer. It is a devillishly good 3 for 2; award winning books of the past twenty odd years. I ( Read more... )

Not yet I'm not.

I'm going to try and sort out tickets for the HDM second run - do you want in? Also, have you heard the Jay-Z/Beatles Grey album?

Ah, good. Yeah, I definitely want in on HDM.

I've got The Grey Album but I think its a better concept than it is an actuality, plus it sounds like it was recorded in a washing machine. What More Can I Say is the stand out for me but nothing gets round the fact Jay-Z is a bit shit.

On an R 'n' B tip for the ladies: DJ Tiim's Yeah Christina. Smooth.

I agree with you about What More Can I Say, and the thing in general. Jay-Z might be rubbish (especially because of Hard Knock Life) but he hasn't spoilt L'il Kim's Peaches and Cream by being on it.

The N.E.R.D. remix was good. Now I'm downloading As Heard on Radio Soundhog vol. 3.

I'm listening to that right now as it happens, that site is a goldmine. Even more so now I have broadband.

If you like glitchcore Poj Masta's overhaul of Toxic is lovely.

I got Mortal Engines in a 3 for 2 a fortnight ago and was also thinking about reviewing it (who were you going to review it for? TAO?). I'll leave that to you, because you're more likely to read it before me and you won't take 6 months to write the review. ;)

Empire Of Bones pissed me off so I'm reading Ender's Game instead. It is pretty damn good so far. It's a shame I already know what Ender does at the end of the book. Bah.

It's a race then! I plan to read it quite soon since it will be a quick read. I may not even be bothered to review it, it's just an idle fancy at the minute.

I toyed with the idea of buying Robert Kagan's Paradise and Power: America Versus Europe in the Twenty-first Century. This is the guy much loved by Dan Minette who has been plugging his Hobbes versus Kant worldview for a couple of years now. He's interesting, I've read a couple of his articles on this topic, but I have a feeling the book would irritate me. Here's an example of his stuff.

Given Lal's speed, it is hardly a race! ;)
