I'm so excited whenever I see a new part to this! You so get the complex electricity those three generated. I love the scene between Rose and Jack especially. As much of an incorrigible perve as he is, he knows when to turn it down and just be a friend and confidant.

Also, Nine's chocolate-whiskey-truffle vocal range? MROWR!

Oddly, btw, I have a sort of half-formed scene in my mind about Rose and Nine just sleeping together and his nightmares leaving bruises that she covers up so he won't feel bad.

I find some of these fanon tropes fascinating - the things that spring up apparently independently, but so strongly. I wrote a "sleeping together without sex" post-Dalek/post-Father's Day story and a treasuring-the-jacket story before I ever got into fandom and discovered how strongly those ideas had taken hold. And so it's not surprising to me that even those little things that reveal character - both his and hers - would occur to others. (I'd love to see yours!)

Thank you so much! I love it when I find a story to which I can really anticipate updates (as I did with "Seed Pearls"), so I'm happy to have created one for someone else!

You so get the complex electricity those three generated.

I just wind them up and let them go, but yeah, it's the way they related between and among each other that really fascinates me. So brief, but it seemed so well established.

As much of an incorrigible perve as he is, he knows when to turn it down and just be a friend and confidant.

I really do find DW!Jack different from TW!Jack. I like DW!Jack much more, and I don't think it's because of the different experience, because he became DW!Jack even when other characters were being somewhat OOC.

And the voice is incredibly underrated as a lethal weapon.

Oooh. Very nice. I like the talk about the aftermath of Rose and the Doctor's 'sleeping together' and how defensive Rose was about it. But what I really love is the end. So very much them. So very real. I can't wait for the next chapter!

I'm glad you liked it!

But what I really love is the end. So very much them.

That was a lot of fun, although some of it surprised even me! The characters just took over.

I can't wait for the next chapter!

This chapter really got away from me (it was initially almost 6000 words long). The good news is that means a good chunk of the next chapter is already done.

Oh, another chapter of "Relict" is always an event. Okay, *anything* from you is an event, but I'm especially enjoying this. 8)

That's a great compliment coming from you! (Coming from anybody, but you were the first DW writer I ever recced!) I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'm actually hoping to get a bit done on "Vampire's Kiss" this weekend. I've been neglecting it, but I'm so close to finishing.

Found it ;)

This is still very nice. Getting a bit dark, though. I'm hoping for some sort of... breaking point and resolution soon.

Just hidin'!

We are coming to a breaking point very soon (although the end game is going to take some time to play out - hence the 12-13 chapters). This chapter did balloon wildly last night and have to be broken up, in part to ease up the darkness, I will admit.

“Nope.” The Doctor’s cheerful refusal should have put an effective damper on his interest, but damn, if that voice didn’t drop into its deepest, most chocolate-whiskey-truffle range as he added, “But if I don’t have to amputate, I will dance with you.”

Eh?! He's...flirting with him but not with Rose? Alas. But he has a better relationship with Rose, I think, even it it's not all sexual tension.

Did he hear when she said in the galley? If he did, how much?!

I hope he doesn't see those bruises when he heals her in the infirmary. *worries*

I love this fic!

He's flirting with Jack, but he's not not flirting with Rose, I don't think. I don't see Nine and Rose as flirty. Hot as hell, and seductive and playful and all of that, but not flirty, whereas that's Jack's default, and the Doctor's reaction is to flirt by deflection. So I see him reacting differently because of their relationships and personalities. And he did promise Jack, so it's only fair Jack gets his dance.

I think the bruises are safe - she's only got a little stick in the hand.

I love this fic!

Thank you!

I can agree with that. ^.^

I notice you didn't say anything about the Doctor hearing what Rose said in the galley. *grins* Coolness. Say no more and all that.
