Best you did that, yes - I've been quite spoiler-ish in the cut, but then, maybe when you've found the movie and watched it, we can discuss whether our opinions are the same? :-)
a) *snorts* Well, there was this statistic being discussed recently - that about 20% of youths can't read well, so that doesn't surprise me... but yeah, ouch.
b) Yeah, the director of the movie, Benjamin Cantu, apparently did a work experience thing on a farm (I don't remember if it was actually this farm or one similar to it) and wanted to use the general farming atmosphere etc. with actual Azubis and teachers and farm helpers etc. for the movie. So it's actually a case of 'what you see is what you get', though I did guess that the dialogue probably has been cleaned up a bit to be film-able. That scene where the Azubis are sitting in the kitchen with Jacob and the one's talking about how a teacher got him a flat in Jänickendorf, I did wonder just how 'flüssig' the discussion sounded
( ... )
BTW, knowing about your obsession: yeah, that movie takes place in the ex-GDR, but... sort of around now-ish? Just so that you weren't expecting a period DDR movie about two guys falling for each other... :-)
That said, there's actually a gay movie from the DDR - named 'Coming Out' - that I always wanted to see, the fascinating thing is that it was shown in cinemas right on the day the Wall fell... so publicity about it wasn't very huge, alas.
Ah, thank you. I am a dope sometimes! Still want to see it, though. Haven't watched a gay film in ages.
I think I heard of that film, aye, am sure it was mentioned in a couple of books I've read lately. Is it still possible to get hold of a copy? I would *really* love to see that.
Ps: cute guys in the movie above. Setting is almost the same as where a certain young German bobsledder was brought up (and still lives). *cackles*
No prob, the movie is sort of timeless, too - no cell phones, no modern flimflams, just farming and people and that's it. :-)
Yeah, you can get 'Coming Out' online, it's with English subtitles, too (checked on amazon.de). So yeah, whenever you've got the monies and the time and the rest, enjoy it and tell me how you liked it, yis? :-)
PS: Uhm, certain young German bobsledder? Alas, I'm not very versed in bobsledding and all that (though I know that we do reap a lot of medals in that sport *g*), care to enlighten me? :-)
