My Favorite Akame Fanfictions

Oct 27, 2011 15:14

I've read a fair amount of fanfiction and my memory is getting a bit mushy, so here's a list to remind myself of what they're about and why I loved them so much.

In alfabetical order, completed if not otherwise stated.

I probably should add that most of them are rated something close to R/NC17, so please use your common sense before reading any of them.

I'm linking the first chapter or prologue to some of these fics, but I'm sure you know how to navigate LJ via tags, link lists and masterposts. If not - comment in this post and I'll give you a hand ^^

★I'll be awarding the really fabulously written fanfictions a golden star (it's all about litterary quality here).★

♥The ones that have captured my heart forever will get a red heart and I really recommend you reading them.
One inch sharper than the starred ones. So keep looking for them hearts!♥

REMEMBER TO LIKE/KUDOS/COMMENT/BOOKMARK THE STORIES YOU LOVE TO LET THE AUTHORS KNOW THAT THEIR WORKS ARE APPRECIATED!!!!

Jin meets Kamenashi again after a decade. Jin's life has not played out like he had planned and the reappearance of Kamenashi does not make things any easier, and what does Kamenashi want?
I love this story and it's brilliant in its sometimes brutal way of portraying the relationship between the characters. Then again it's haikuesque and I wouldn't expect anything less from them. Read it HERE over at AO3 if you prefer that.

Across A Bridge of Magpies
by maayacola
Jin is the sun and he just melts, slipping away from himself and away from reality itself... His confusion magnified by his characters feelings, or is it Kame feeling what he's feeling? All he knows is that he doesn't know what he wants.
This is probably the most beautiful fic I've read since Seachange... and I can't stress enough how FREAKING IMPORTANT IT IS THAT YOU READ THIS STORY! Okay... now when I've got that off my chest; just do it! You won't regret it!

After the Sun Burns Down
by kaminikaku in kizuna_exchange
Jin wakes up and the universe isn't what it used to be.
Nice Sci Fi story, with that special omage to the "what happens when home is not obtainable anymore" that is a bit special for this genre. I love it!

Cordis somnia
by elanielyn in kizuna_exchange
A painter falls inlove with the rich heir of a respectable family. Love takes and it gives.
This is something that get's me running on all my gears, because the ammount of detail in this story is amazing! Angst and sweet love; the Akame-way.

Dented
by natsukashi_yume in kizuna_exchange
Kame flees, flees the choking fear of not knowing what to do with his life and Johnny sends Jin to collect him. A painful journey across Europe begins.
I can't get over all the angst and all the beautiful and tear jerking moments. This is a really great story that stands on it's own two feet. Beautifully written, as expected. Take the time to read it people. You can look at it as a sort of twin-fic to Maia's Dream Boy (listed here below). If you love this one then you'll love the other and vice versa.

Dream Boy
by maayacola
Jin has never been in love... he's living his American dream to the fullest, but he still hasn't fallen inlove... except with the moon.
I finished reading it and I cried like a baby, I cried through the whole thing actually. You will not regret that you've read it, even if you get scared by me going "I cried like a baby" you will enjoy this quality fiction. READ IT!

Goodwill to all men, mice, wolves and trees (colour scheme pending)
by haikuesque in haikusociety
KAT-TUN decides to have a Christmas party, or rather - Jin decides that KAT-TUN is going to have a party.
This is fun, incredibly well written and it has captured that insanely hilarious phenonemon that is the interaction between the KAT-TUN members. They've got a LJ too where you can comment on the fics.

Hello, Sir, You're the Magnet to My Fist (and I'll embrace the pain out of you) (Kyohei/Natsu) ★
by prologuesized
Kyohei is told to find love, to meet people. He meets a middle aged Natsu and it's explosive.
I really like this fic, even though it's not a "akame" fic it really is anyway so it ends up here. I'm confusing myself. Anyway, it's well-written and nice if you've watched the drama and the movie.

I Believe You Liar
by soundczech
Kame is supposed to be the one to lessen the hate that the media and the JE employes has for Jin, but it turns out that he is so much more, even more than Jin has ever thought he'd be.
It's a must-read for all Akame-fans. It's hard to get it more non-AU than this.

Impono Vicis
by sparklynoodles and maayacola
Some fears can paralyze us or make our life to a living hell. Kame fears the process of aging, of being left behind while the younger ones speed ahead - he fears it so much that he vows to win over time itself and become an immortal.
This is thick, angsty and full of emotions and even some sweet love. I really recommend it.

Netting a Turtle is a Virtual Affair
by becroberts in ficwars
When people live most of their life on the net, literally, there's a need for someone to keep order amongst these users. That's what Jin does after he has been forced to leave his criminal past and his beloved memory card behind him. But it's not all bad, because he meets the turtle of his dreams (and if he kisses it maybe it will turn into a prince).
This is a really entertaining sci fi from a really capable author. One of my absolute favorites!

Paint Me in a Million Dreams
by rikachi
They're clinging to it as if their life relied to it, but is there really anything to cling to?
Non-AU Akame is the best kind of Akame. That's just how it is. And this is filled with that bitter sweet feeling that Akame spreads around them, angst on a level where it's just beautiful and not the least bit heavy or limiting. A wonderful birthday gift from a very special person <3 I don't think I have to tell you that I love it, you can guess by the red heart.

Right Down the Line
by shontos_garden in kizuna_exchange
Kame and Jin were dreaming of starting a restaurant together, as chefs, but Jin left. Ten years has passed.
This is an AMAZING alternate universe-story which is at the length of a proper novel. It's angsty and oh how lovely. Just read it ans get drawn into this wonderful version of Akame-reality.

Satellite Hearts ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
by maayacola
Kame is a satellite and the sun is the love he's inevitably drawn to.
Beautiful is not enough of a word to describe this story. Read it and marvel. There's so many thruths in this work of fiction that it seems real. Maia, the writer, has some really interesting things to say about both Jin and Kazuya and the way she mixes her thoughts in with the beautiful love story that this is makes the tears stream from my eyes. I will forever love this story and it makes the sadness that I feel watching Jin a little easier to cope with. I would shower this story with hearts if it made you read it <3

Seachange
by soundczech
They've always returned to each other but is it to late this time? Kame visits Jin in Australia, his new home, but all things are not what it seems to be.
This was the first fanfiction I ever read and I'm really glad I did it because it made me realize fanfiction's potential, the pure awsomeness that arises when a talanted writer uses his or hers magic. Warning for angst, angst, angst and liters of tears shed! But even though I was a bit traumatised after reading this I will never regret that I did.

Standpoints
by prologuesized
It's one fight after the other, tearing them further apart and turning them more into strangers one by one. Can Kazuya and Jin save the last remnants of their relationship?
Lovely angst, I feel like it's suitable for nightly reads, preferably after midnight when all fangirls are closer to their flailing selfs. Anyway. I really like this story, always nice to read a story were reality has left a scar (where conflicts and poor communication does have consequences).

The Same Deep Water as You
by haikuesque in haikusociety
Kame's got his reasons for seeing prostitutes. Jin's got his reasons for being one. Life is pretty screwed up.
This is a story that takes you by surprise, because Kame saves Jin in a way and Jin saves Kame. It's a story where their relationship grows so organically that you can't really remember when they fell in love. It's well-paced, well-balanced and it's REALLY long because it needed to be that long. The king of Akame-AU-FF I tell ya'! Beautifully written, beautifully imagined. With warnings for the prostitution-part, well, you can imagine the scenarios that may ensue. Not a pretty business, people! Not even when Akame is involved.
There's a few oneshots connected with this story and you can find the whole list (original story included) HERE at AO3.

Through Brambles and Thorns  (Hayato/Ryu) ♥
by maayacola in kizuna_exchange
And Ryu thinks he knows, the pain of Sleeping Beauty, because he might never wake up with Hayato by his side again. He trudges on, hoping that one day, Hayato's spell might break.
This was utterly heartbreaking to read and there's some MAJOR ANGST WARNINGS here. But as with all things Maia, you will never regret that you've read her work. That's a promise.
