Very interesting. I've never seen the "John doing it for Dean's sake" before, it's always Dean giving in to John's needs or just being abused. John comes across as screwed up, but caring.

That was what I was going for. He just wants to be the best father he can be to Dean and this seems to be the only way. In a screwed up sort of way.
