Shit! One of my cats has fucking tapeworm. Which means I will be spending most of my Saturday cleaning my damn house to clean up the tapeworm eggs. And now we'll have to watch the other one too to make sure that he doesn't have them. Personally I'm all for treating him like he does have them so we can be rid of this kind of crap. Ugh...the thought ( Read more... )

Thanks. I hope so too. I feel so bad for her because she just got spayed a week ago. I just want healthy and happy kitties. I don't want a repeat of last year.

Ouch! Not good. You might indeed be better off assuming the worst - the treatments, if I recall correctly, aren't horrible, but the tapeworm's a real mess. Ai!

I know. It just sucks. Apparently the treatment should work pretty quickly. I'm just glad Kevin's around. I have a hard time dealing with worms at all...it's one of those things that have always made me feel sick just thinking about it, much less seeing them. (Yes...I know it's silly...it's just one of my hang-ups).

I hope we can get her cured quickly. I don't like thinking that she's feeling ill because there's some damn parasite making her sick. Grr.

Tapes aren't going to make her very sick right away, and she's unlikely to have any continuing problems once treated. Do treat all the animals in the house, though. And bleach the litterboxes, etc. It's the safest way.

We gave both cats tapeworm treatment yesterday and Kevin bleached their boxes. I'm getting ready to sweep and vaccuum the house, so hopefully their won't be any more problems. Do you know of a way to clean soft cat toys? Or should be just be on the safe side and throw them out?

It's Pierette. The poor baby seems to be the most susceptible to these sort of things. I feel so bad for her.

Yeah...I generally try to get grossed out by such things but I just can't help it.

That sounds horrible! The poor dog. That's really weird that they can't remove them from her.

I think the kitties will be ok. I think we found the worms quickly enough. *crosses fingers* Thanks.

Don't worry too much about tapes. They're nasty, but the biggest concern is malnutrition, since they live in the cat's digestive system and absorb all the nutrients from the cat's diet. The cat would have to have tapes for a while to really be affected.

That's probably heartworm, not tapes.
