I've been lurking around the LFN fandom for quite a while, trying to keep up with everything, which has been pretty difficult without a road map. I have to say, you've done an excellent job of summarizing everything that happened. From what I've read "here and there," I don't think you've left anything out. I've even learned a few things I didn't know before, so thanks for that!

I could go on and on, but I won't. About the person who, with a few venom-laced and well-placed phone calls managed to cost Fondation MIRA $2,250 by forcing MIRA to refund, in full, the non-refundable registration fees.

I don't know if you've heard them, but there have been rumors circulating that one of her MIRA "sources" was behind the real reason Roy left MIRA in the first place. It makes one wonder if he weren't trying to create a smokescreen to deflect attention away from himself by implicating someone else, doesn't it? I wonder if she's heard those rumors? Hmmm...

First, thanks! My purpose was basically to lay down the facts in chronological order; to clarify the unclear, as it were. Glad I could help! ;) That being said, I don’t know if the person to whom you refer is the same one in my post. The point, and I do have one, is that rumors about Roy’s timing and reason for leaving MIRA in the manner he did have been rampant since Day One. We’ve all heard them; several variations on a theme. But until Roy speaks, we don’t KNOW what the catalyst was. I promised to present the facts; not speculation. Please know that I welcome all thoughts regarding my post. For future reference, though, to ALL who wish to be heard, please try to confine your comments and questions to facts I can verify. Thanks for reading!

Sorry, I meant no offense. I used the word "rumor" because it is just that...idle gossip. I have no idea if it is true and my own source is certainly no better than eighth-hand information, if that! My goal was only to point out a potential motive for the malicious posts that were written at the time, which seemed to be unprovoked. Although the poster claimed to be acting "in the best interests of MIRA" at the time, it was clear she was doing the exact opposite, at least to me.

For some reason, I felt compelled to write down my feelings about what was happening at the time, but I never posted them anywhere. This is what I wrote:

"Facts are facts. In the words of Col. Jessup (Jack Nicholson) in A Few Good Men, some people 'can't handle the truth.' Ignoring it, blaming the messenger, burying your head in the sand against it and creating elaborate hypothetical situations as a smokescreen to cover it up don't change it. People see what they want to see and believe what they want to believe, but the facts do not change -- only people's ( ... )

Okay. I *believe* we’re on the same page as to the person AND the message board mentioned in my post. I can’t and won’t presume to speak to that particular person’s motivation. Rumors are rumors, and facts are facts. I stated from the beginning that this post is MY interpretation of events; MY feelings and MY thoughts. The details are as factual as I know them to be. If I am in error regarding any verifiable facts, or missing any pertinent intel, I’m certainly willing to share. Thanks for your comments!

What a sad story you told but ,alas,facts as your witness,it is time to forgive and forget!Nobody cares anymore and MIRA still gladly accepts donations from one and all .I am sure it also just a bad memory for them as well.Life goes on and hopefully all concerned have turned to more productive ways to help MIRA recoup their losses and continue to encourage their work.

Thanks for commenting. Yes, life goes on, and many have moved forward. What concerns me is that the subject of Roy’s support of Fondation Rivières is *still* being waved as a red flag in the face of those who never questioned his choice or motive, only his timing and manner of leaving MIRA (see lame cola analogy). Instead of fandom support for either cause, I see opposing factions--a line in the sand--with the implication that only one “side” still supports Roy. Absurd; yet the chasm widens, sadly disproving your “nobody cares anymore” theory. I only hope what I’ve posted dispels any lingering misunderstandings and explains why there was no need for any rift in the first place. Thanks for reading!

I was trying to figure out how to respond to this rant of yours that should be over with, and is for most people, but you said it so well for me I didn't really have to re-state it myself:

Thanks! I agree, the issue-that-never-really-was-one should have been over before it began. Yet some seem to thrive on keeping the waters muddied. Very sad when a misunderstanding of the most basic tenets of the subject degenerates into sophomoric name-calling. And that solves what? :/ Thanks for reading!

I too lurk around and didn't know about a lot of what you explained in your post. It's a shame that the nasty name calling people (see above anonymous) can't make an effort to let everyone have their own opinion without resorting to name calling.

If you don't mind, I'm in the process of setting up a LJ account and would very much like to friend you.

Thanks for commenting! I'm glad I was able to fill in the missing pieces. I had a lot of help from good frineds to make sure I got it all right and verifiable. I'd be proud to have you as a friend.

As to those who wish to shoot their barbas from anonymity; I don't mind. Just proves they have nothing of real substance to add, but I'll listen to anyone who doesn't get hateful. Unfortunately, that very rift that shouldn't have been has brought about this behavior in some. There's no need for that in a civil dialogues. JMHO.

I also would like to thank you for your post. I am not a member of any message board, but I do enjoy reading others' posts. I read carefully the events as they unfolded on the ard/five light years farther board. Why on earth some people would choose to chime in only to bring the members down and accuse them of lying is far beyond me. At one point, I had e-mailed one of these imposive posters to ask such questions as why she chose post, suddenly, only to antagonize charity event participants regarding their own debriefs. I got no coherent responses, therefore I can only assume by her posts and responses to me, that she was only interested in "stirring the pot" so-to-speak, and insulting publically, the members of that board. I have no doubt there are multiple sides to the story, however, there seems to be a truth and a cover-up. I appreciate your courage to stand up for the truth and share it with this community openly ( ... )

I remember your name and your post from an open forum on a message board I like to call "home." ;) Unfortunately, there will always be those who choose to "stir the pot" for no other reason than personal glory; their fifteen minutes of fame. I suppose they don't realize that when their message has no value, it serves no purpose other than to make them appear foolish.

I promised to tell the truth, and I have. Those who can't handle it, despite my warnings, and read to the end only to respond with juvenile and anonymous name-calling, only hurt themselves. ..... nasty name calling person (see above anonymous)..... what I was trying to say was, that I am just tired of ALL the name calling, not you or any other person specifically. Why can't everyone just get over this. It's all been said, endlessly, and everyone has picked their sides. No one is going to budge from their side of the disagreement. Each side can spin this in their direction, I have heard both.

What I was saying was that I thought this was over and I would like it to stay over. I was not making any comments about sides of the issue,or what side I was on if any. I thought all that could be said, had been said last summer, that's all. What continue to dig it all up again. Enough already!
