I wonder if Hollywood's budget boom has reached its logical end point? A lot of articles recently have been talking about the disappointing opening for Mission: Impossible III, and that in and of itself is not unusual; I remember being sick to the back teeth of hearing the words "box-office slump" by the end of last year. But here's the interesting thing - every article I've read on it so far has mentioned how insane it is to be talking about a movie that's made nearly $50 million in three days in terms of "a disappointment". It does feel a bit like a tipping point.

Couple this with the influx of blockbuster-style films from other countries like Casshern or Night Watch. Now, I've got to admit I didn't see Night Watch - it looked like a feature-length Slayer video, and I don't see the need to go and see a foreign movie that's influenced by The Matrix and Blade, since I go to foreign films to escape those movies. But I saw enough of the 'money shots' to wonder, as so many people doubtless have, how did they get such amazing ( ... )
