Four-day weeks are supposed to be easier

... but they never are, when one has to cram five days worth of work into four -- or in my case, a couple of extra days' work in addition, as I was on vacation the week before Labor Day. I feel positively relaxed having a five-day week again ( Read more... )

I envy you being actively musical. I grew up in a family where my father played piano by ear, and my brother played any instrument, and we listened to folk and jazz and bluegrass and rock and I sang in choirs. But I wish I had learned to really master an instrument. I can play piano but I can't read notes. I think I have a natural talent for music, but I CAN'T READ NOTES. I've tried to learn. It's like dyslexia ( ... )

I can't read music either. I know the basics, but my sight reading is the musical equivalent of a slow first-grader reading "S-ee S-p-o-t r-uu-nn." ND can't read even that much, but he has a great ear -- maybe *because* he has to depend on his ear.

The expense is what's been keeping me from joining a gym, but Planet Fitness is ubercheap -- a $39 sign-up fee then $10 a month. Maybe there's one near you? Check the website: www.planetfitness.com.

Braugher does that stoic-black-guy thing he did in "Homicide," only he's looking much older and a bit heavier. A friend of mine thinks he might have a medical issue for which he's taking steroids. The character is a lot like House -- alone and isolated and wrapped up in his work.

you should be a pirate for Halloween then. or Daryl Hannah's character in Kill Bill, she was scarier than a damn pirate.

I wanna be Peg Leg Greg from my Jamieverse fics. I don't recall if you read them, but House has his leg amputated and makes his first grand entrance on his prosthetic leg in a pirate costume. Later, he has a son who grows up to write kids books featuring a pirate called Peg Leg Greg.

Ever see the cartoon of the "Pirate Encyclopedia"? It's a row of books on a bookshelf, each labeled A, B, C, etc. But wider than several of them put together is Volume R. As in Arrrrrr!
