I'm planning to be moved and gone by mid-October. I know you've got a lot going on too right now, but maybe we can figure something out. I was actually thinking about that too.

Wow - I'm really sorry that people here in Seattle have been such clueless asshats in your direction. I hope things go very well for you in San Francisco. Except for the distinct lack of trees in many places, I liked it the 2 times I've been there...

Thanks. The thing is that I don't think it's a fully conscious/intentional thing here. It's just a consequence of the general overall level of reserve.

Maybe so. I will do my best to be more aware and better about paying more attention to others though.

I've always been amazed how this varies from city to city--even cities that are geographically close to one another. I get a fair amount of this in Charlottesville, and I don't think it's going to be quite as good in Fredericksburg. But Richmond is absolutely the worst I've ever experienced in that regard. I've noticed different reactions to the dog, too. Here, people do occasionally pet Yani, but much more often than not, people say, "I know I'm not supposed to pet her, so I'll just admire her," or something to that effect. I'm glad you found an apartment. Good luck with th emove.

It really is a fascinating phenomenon. I've had two or three conversations with my neighbor in the two days I've been here. That's more than I've had with most neighbors in Seattle over months!
