On Wednesday, the day following the quake, I didn't really know what to do. We had no power, no water, supermarkets weren't open. I read a book for much of the day. A book I had been reading on my tablet, but had a paper copy for, so I went and figured out where I was up to. It's weird having to go to bed at 9pm when the sun goes down because there ( Read more... )

Thank you for the updates <3 It really really is amazing how much NZ has banded together to give Christchurch support...in fact so much of the world has.

Most of my friends have left Christchurch for a few weeks to try to get some normality and to escape the horror of the earthquake...but I guess it's hard when you see it all the time on the tv. I know of one who hadn't seen anything on the tv until a few days ago and had a breakdown over seeing the city in such disarray.

Lots of love!

Thankie <3 I haven't had a breakdown yet but I've come pretty close a few times. I'm waiting to see what's happening with work, it's in an area of town that has been struggling to get power and water through, and without power there's really nothing we can do there except tidy up. Air NZ are putting on $50 flights to anywhere in the country from Christchurch and I am definitely thinking of at least a long weekend in Wellington or Wanganui, or both, just to get the hell out of here for a bit.

I'm glad your friends are okay =)

yeah... there are people to the west of the city i could visit and have a shower... but it all seems a long way away, and i don't feel right being on the road just for that purpose. push will eventually come to shove if we don't get water back soon. maybe i should find one of those solar shower things n_n

Having a wash from a hand basin full of water is actually really refreshing after five days without a shower.

Also, I'm not sure about rugby clubs and suchforth, but my work's locker room shower is locked to discourage people using it, seeing as the whole waste water infrastructure is ruined and the radio expert dudes tell us to avoid taking showers if possible.
