Just because, here are some links, most of which might only be of interest to the classical music fans on my flist. All three of you. :)

Anyway, here we go:

Classical music comforts a grieving elephant. Awwwwww...

It's YOUR fault that PJ's in my head. You were talking about that one story the other night, and then it started to compose itself in my head. It won't stop. :p

Your fault. All yours. :) The good news is that Skyfire doesn't require TOO much channeling... *sigh*

Well, they found the Vivaldi piece last summer, so maybe someone's recorded it somewhere...

As for the viola joke: Heh. Heh heh heh. Heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh... :D

At least it's not my fault this time. ;)

Nope, I can't blame this one on you. :) Unless, of course, you want me to or something... ;)

What the late Pope John Paul worked so hard for The Deceiver tears down. :(

I have to admit however that if Palpatine ever heard some of the track I have (eg, Heavy Metal version of "Joy to the World") he might think differently. Or then again he might just be a grumpy old coot.

I vote for "grumpy old coot," m'self. :)

I have to admit that, not being Catholic, I usually don't give a hoot about what the Pope says, whatever Pope it is, and normally I wouldn't point out anything that he says to anyone. But in this case, I took exception to the insinuation that only Gregorian chant is appropriate for worship, that it's the only music that can foster a connection between the worshipper and God. Bull!

Personally, I feel much closer to God when listening to a Bach cantata (or even to certain Christian pop songs!) than I do when listening to Gregorian chant. And I understand the words when I listen to chant, too, so it isn't that I don't understand it. In fact, all the Latin I know came from listening to chant. :) I love it, but it doesn't necessarily make me feel closer to God, no. So, I call bull on ol' Bennie over there...

And people wonder why I'm not a Christian.

There are some who would say that the Catholics are far from Christian, though I'm not really one of them. So, those same people would say that whatever Benedict says is not at all representative of Christianity.

In other words, you can't use that excuse, IB. ;)

Sure I can. I'm Ironbite. I can use any excuse I want. Who are you to say I can't huh? HUH!?

I'm Nightwind, which trumps an Ironbite. :) Would you like to play again?

So music does soothe the savage beast! :)

I like Gregorian chant. However, I'm also wondering if the Pope has nothing more important to worry about.

Well, at least music soothes a depressed elephant... That's a step in the right direction. :)

And I adore Gregorian chant. I've gone through phases, most recently when I was pregnant, when it was all that I would listen to. But like I said to UGuard, it doesn't necessarily make me feel any closer to God than listening to...Well, anything, really.

And yeah, I'd say that the Pope has much bigger fish to fry. And hey, if people are coming to Mass because it's become, you know, fun (as opposed to when I was a kid and it was crashingly boring), and they're tithing their little hearts out in appreciation, then the Pope should be happy, y'know?

And my first thought is "But what would I do with an entire orchestra?"

nightwind69 July 14 2006, 00:49:42 UTC
Private concerts? 'Course, you'd have to have a pretty big house to fit a 40-piece orchestra...

Yeah, I'd say that's a valid question. :) But if I had an extra million laying around, I'd have bought the orchestra, just to keep it going for other people to enjoy...
