I hate hospitals

Well, here I am, sitting in a hospital waiting room using the owner of my company's laptop and his cellular internet connection to make a Livejournal post. HAH! It's the perks of being the company's IT person, y'see... :)

Anyway, frostymook just went into surgery about a half hour ago to have a huge cyst removed from her body. Which is a bummer on many ( Read more... )

debilitated frosty, entries from the road, boring real life

Poor Frosty. I hope she recovers quickly. I assume they are doing this laproscopically; it has a quciker recovery rate. My Mother had the same thing removed many years back; she will be so much better with it gone. *hugs*

Unfortunately, the thing was much too large to be removed laparoscopically. The cyst itself was almost the size of a grapefruit, and it was solid, so it wasn't something that they could just pop and then pull out the remains with a laparascope. So, they had to do it the old-fashioned way, I'm afraid. She's got a 4-or-5 inch vertical incision in her belly, so it's going to be a while before she's on her feet again. She should be going home at least by Thursday, though, so that's a good thing ( ... )

Ech, bummer that it has to be done 'old school'. And while the pain will be different to the gas, it'll probably hurt just as much, sorry to say. Mum's had the midline incision from bottom of the rib cage almost all the way down, as well as a transect across her lower stomach twice for the hysterectomy and bladder work. Make sure Frosty doesn't go trying to do any sort of bending or lifting! My mother was a pain with trying to do things too fast. :P

Yeah, Frosty does have a very bad tendency to do too much too soon. I've a feeling I'll be having to sit on her (proverbially speaking, of course. :) ) quite a bit over the next few weeks. On the plus side, we were planning to go to fiddle camp next week, so I have the week off. Plus, the kids can stay with their father that week, which was the fiddle camp plan. The end result is that Frosty won't feel compelled to be doing things for her kids that she shouldn't be doing AND I will be around to sit on her. :)

So, while it sucks that we'll have to miss our vacation (AGAIN!), it's kind of convenient that I'll be home for her first week of home recuperation. So, I guess it all works out in the end. Maybe we were just not meant to go to fiddle camp this year after all...
